How do you open a port? I have no router or firewall

I need some help.

I am using an Embarq 660 modem with NO router. I also have NO firewall activated.

When I use uTorent, my downloads are very fast, usually 170/kbs, however my upload speed is 0 or almost 0. It tells me I need to open a port, but I have no idea how to do that.

I have read many instructions on how to open a port, but ALL OF THEM talk about reconfiguring your router. Since I am not using a router, I don't know what I should do.

I am also using Windows XP if that matters and I have turned off Peer Guardian but it doesn't help.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Some googling: Embarq 660 modem seems to be a ZyXEL 660 series modem which acts as router.
