zony
I've have noticed that utorrent will connect through my regular network despite it's configured to connect through a proxy server. When I measure the data stream through the proxy server only half of the data goes through the proxy server.
Ultima
Not all µTorrent traffic is proxied -- namely, DHT. What kind of proxy are you using anyway? Do you have peer-to-peer connections proxied as well?
zony
I've the peer-to-peer connections proxied as well (set in utorrent configuration). It doesn't matter what type of proxy I use, the problem still remains - utorrent leaks data streams outside of the proxy connection. How much data stream would DHT represent when active? May be the problem would be solved if I disabled DHT, although that would probably impair the number of connections with other seeders.
Ultima
It doesn't generate a large amount of bandwidth, but it does generate a large amount of UDP packets, which many routers interpret as "connections."
Switeck
It may be possible that uTorrent's Local Peer Discovery would also look outside the proxy.
zony
Is it possible to design utorrent software to force all traffic through the proxy server? It would be a good feature.
Ultima
Forcing UDP through a proxy is only possible via SOCKS 5 proxies, which is why I asked earlier what proxy type you were using. Either way, though, µTorrent currently doesn't proxy UDP, even with SOCKS 5 proxies. AFAIK, it's already on the todo.
zony
I've tried all types of proxy with same result.I'm glad to hear it's on the todo list
