Cordite Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I apologise in advance if this is somewhere already in the forums but i have searched for a while and cant seem to find anything matching my problem, and again it might be a real easy one to fix but well here goes...Utorrent simply put just doesnt work, i click on the icon to run it and the icon appears in my system tray and the window appears on my start bar but as if it is minimized. No matter how i approach it i cant get it to show the actual window. Also i cant exit it by right clicking on either it or the system tray icon, the only way to do it is to force a close in task manager. It was previously working and the only thing i can think i have done is to run windows update a few times since i last used it. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling and i get the same problem with the installer as i did when the program was installed properly, the installer wont even really install it just runs like it did when it was installed (??) ive tried both current and beta versions and stil the same problem persists My system is Vista Ultimate 64 bit currently as up to date as possible, ill mention that i am with tiscali and have a siemens gigaset se587, although its seems somewhat irrelevant as everything was working well 2 weeks ago, (aswell as i could get it considering tiscali is my isp, lol)Im assuming its something in the windows update thats done this or maybe malware/virus (something along those lines, ive ran AV etc plus checked hijack this both in normal and windows safe mode and ran all programs as admin) but im unable to resolve the issue was hoping maybe someone could point me in the right direction or know what to do. thanks
DreadWingKnight Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 What internet security software do you have installed?Could you post one of your hijackthis logs please?
Switeck Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Even once you get uTorrent working...Tiscali (or its parent ISP, Carphone Warehouse Broadband Services) is EXTREMELY hostile to BitTorrent traffic. At the least speeds will likely be horrible during peak evening hours. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=288394#p288394
Riding Ghost Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 My copy is doing the exact same thing, with the exception that I'm using XP and using iolo antivirus..hmm.RG
Cordite Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 AV is AVG 8 free, its not great i know but funds are low and all , ill also mention ive installed a wireless xbox 360 controller since last working usage of utorrent but i dont see that being a the cause of this.
