bryanG Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 I was dling a torrent off the Bay and when it was not moving too fast I decided to look for it on a private tracker where I am a member. I believe it was the same torrent file and I stopped but did not delete the one from the Bay before starting the new one. Utorrent crashed and will not open ever since. I get a Crash Dump every time I open it now. I was able to delete all the current torrents from it and clear my torrent cache. Uninstalled utorrent deleted it from my program files, cleaned my registry (yet it seems to still save my old settings when reinstalling) and no diceI have knowledge of basic torrent related things and have done pretty well til this point, but am stuck here. If anyone has any suggestions or can post a link where this may have been covered, I'd appreciate it. I am stuck using azures at the moment and I would much rather stick with Utorrent. Thanks guys (and gals)BryanPS... Utorrent 1.8.2 on Vista 64 SP1 Have never had ANY problems with Utorrent in 2 years or so until the EXACT moment I downloaded those two files (which I believe to be the same file except 1 on public tracker and the other private) just make sure I was clear
Switeck Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Something about your computer has changed. Auto-updating software (even the OS) can cause new disasters that make it seem like something YOU did. Hardware could be dying.1st link in my signature...you probably need to do a painful HijackThis! log and Process Explorer DLL list. ...Though if uTorrent won't run long enough to do this, try listing DLLs used by some other network-using program -- even Azureus!
bryanG Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 No updates except the newest Windows updates days prior to this. No new hardware aside from a new HDD for storage, again week or so before this. Absolutely no new software added. This is for my HTPC so not much gets added except torrents. Have not had any problems with any other aspect of my computer .... no viruses or malware ... nothing out of the ordinaryI find it hard to believe that at the EXACT moment ... did I mention exact? ... that I added those two torrents (as described) that utorrent crashed after never having prior problems with it. I will look into doing what you suggest.
moogly Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Can you post Hijackthis log please. Try to post Process Explorer when uT is running if you can.Guide: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=29748For PE, don't forget to select utorrent.exe and enable DLL mode (ctrl+d).
Switeck Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Have you tried deleting all of uTorrent's settings after it quits working and testing again?(FAQ tells how.)You shouldn't need to format...and it'll let us know if the problem is something "in" uTorrent.

Let me know if I posted the PE log properly, I managed to get utorrent running.Switeck I believe I erased my settings completely and reinstalled. Worked for a short bit no problems, but now coming across the same problems I am thinking of running Mtest/Prime to double check my systems ram, that's the only hardware I can think could possibly be failing, though I have not seen/noticed any problems with it. Again cannot think of any software being added. PowerDvD and Logitech (software for the remote) is the newest software, which was added weeks before these problems.Appreciate the help, I apologize for having to bother others with my problems. Hopefully I get it fixed and learn something new in the process ... really enjoy utorrent over the other apps Thanks again

moogly Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Let me know if I posted the PE log properly, I managed to get utorrent running.PE log is incomplete, DLL list injected in utorrent.exe is not present. Can you repost your PE log please?
bryanG Posted March 30, 2009 Author Report Posted March 30, 2009 Moogly I just want to check before I post another log incorrectly. I select utorrent exe. from the menu and press CTRL+D? I believe this was done last time but I will try it once more. Let me know.Switeck I have been using Roxio for some time now. It gets used for Audio cd burning only. It has not been opened at all in quite some time except for certain High Def movies automatically open the Cine Player and I have to cancel it. I completely erased utorrent and it's setting and did a clean install and still have this problem ... so the Roxio "bug" would be unlikey the cause, correct?I will try and disable Norton and see if that helps. If it is Norton 360 disabling it should cure the problem, correct? I have been using Norton for some time without any problems. At least 6 months I would say. Was using Eset for a while but Norton has become solid again over the last year, though I am aware it is a bit over protective at times and causes problems. Thanks for the suggestions
Switeck Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Roxio is only likely to be a problem if its indexer is active or sometimes active...and even then possibly only for audio/video media files. No, Norton 360 would likely interfere as long as it's still installed.
bryanG Posted March 31, 2009 Author Report Posted March 31, 2009 I believe I found the culprit. I kept going over what might have changed as Switeck suggested. I use Window Blinds and I had changed my desktop and blinds to match. I saw that the few times utorrent was loading without crashing that the blinds did not load. So I turned off Windowblinds and it seemed to work fine. Turned WindowBlinds back on with a new blind and seems to work fine now. No crashes so far. I did not even think about this being the cause because I have actually used that particular blind before and nothing happened nor has any blind ever caused this. But this computer was at my desktop and now is the HTCP computer on the 52" Samsung ... so the DPI has been changed. Perhaps this has caused the problem as my advanced cursors with Cursor FX no longer show up at this DPI either. I will keep up to date if I incur any further problems. Feedback is welcome. Appreciate the time Switeck and Moogly have taken so far. Thank you, hopefully that was it.Bryan
