DaBears57
I have SBC DSL "1.5 dl/384 up" but i get with speed tests about 600-650. When I use Utorrent what should my download speed be about. I know it depends on the seeds/leachers. I have tried download the office torrent (the one with like 173 seeds and 10 peers) I was using the beta and got a max of 80 but didnt like the better cuz it took 100% CPU. anyways what speed should i get. I was wonder if upgrading my WRT54G router firmware to the new 5.0 one even though I have version 2. Would that help? So what should my dl speeds be at. Ultima
At 1.5mbit/s download, you should be getting something around 180KB/s. Are you getting Network OK in the status bar? If not, then you're going to have to port forward and whatnot. And as for the 100% CPU usage... check if this FAQ entry applies to you. And I believe you can't use the new firmware for WRT54G v5, since it uses a different OS inside.
Firon
The latest official WRT54G v5 firmware fixes several problems with it.And the beta only uses 100% CPU if you have a problem on your PC.
Ultima
Yep, it fixes problems, but not for WRT54G v2 =T
slimy
If you have v2, you can upgrade all the way to v4. It stops there though. I haven't seen anything past 4.07 or something for quite a while. Bastards are only upgrading v5, and they differ from the others.
Firon
Well, that's what the unofficial firmwares are for, at least. And I've seen some newer firmwares for the v4 and lower, tofu constantly makes new builds based off them, but they haven't fixed the most serious problems yet. DaBears57
Yeah my network says ok and i have my ports forworded but i still only get like 70kbs and said i should get 180? How can I improve that? I have McAfee but i opened the ports in that too.
Firon
If you get Network OK and used the Speed Guide properly, there's not much you can do. Few torrents give you full speed.
DaBears57
What if i used those firmwares for my router WRT54G and do that thing but would that increase my speed? Also I only get 100% CPU with the beta not the original.
Firon
It may help, it may not.By the way, what firewall/AV do you have?

Ultima
Try another torrent (like OpenOffice.org v2.0.1). If you can get max download with this torrent, then it's the torrent you have on hand that's slow.
