My router can't take it... What settings to ease up the load?

Dear all

I have a Zyxel P660R D1 DSL router from my ISP, from which I have a Linksys WRT54GL with latest DD-WRT firmware, and from that is my computer with latest uTorrent connected with cable.

After a few hours (sometimes minutes) running my uTorrent (which have a lot of torrents seeding, to let others access to all what I have downloaded), the network connections becomes allmost unusable. Heavy packet losses with Windows Ping, my Videophone falls off the net and browsing often ends out in "Page cannot be views" (or whatever it is in english :)) - but uTorrent keeps seeding with about 80-100 KB/s (my set max for upload)

As soon as I shut down uTorrent, everything works again.

I've heard that the Zyxel has a limit of around 500 connections, so I think this is the problem.

Firstly, it does not seem that uTorrent is respecting the "Global maximum number of connections" setting in Preferences/Bandwith. No matter what setting, my Linksys reports 4-500+ connections, which go down to 50-100 when shutting down uTorrent. If this setting is set to e.g. 50, is it correct that uTorrent will not have more than 50 connections overall, or is it 50 concurrent active connections, not counting those waiting to be connected?

Second, is there any other settings that I could turn off or decrease, to ease off the load on the poor router?

Best regards

Sorry for bumping an older thread like this, but I just wanted to let you know eSKape that you are able to increase the number of connections to 1024 on that type of router. I would know since I have the very same :)

It would be preferable if it was possible to set how many UDP connections µTorrent would be able to use instead of being forced to disable DHT completely.
