Question About "Peer Exchange" Numbers

Now that I've been using uTorrent awhile, I seem to got it mostly figured out and it works great. I do have a question though.

I noticed when I upload a new torrent, right away the section marked "Trackers" says (under seeds)

DHT - 1

Local Peeer Discover - 0

Peer Exchange - 1

Demonoid (Or Pirate Bay or whatever) - 1

Which is fine.

Then after about five minutes the "Peer Exchange number changes to "2" And it stays that way until the torrent gets additional seeds.

Why is the "Peer Exchange" reading 2 (after about five minutes) when I am the only seed. I've uploaded over 50 torrrents and it never fails to read 2 seeds while the DHT seed number is 1 and the tracker number (be it Demonoid or Pirate Bay or whatever) reads 1 seed.

Is this just the way it works?

I guess I don't really understand what "Peer Exchange" is about.
