Recommended Posts

Hi , this is my firts post, hope you can help me.

I cant reach the speed of my connection.

I have an aDSL 3.0MB Down 256K UP connection

Provider Arnet (telecom, Argentina)

My computer is a Celeron 500Mhz 512Mb of RAM , Windows 2003 Server Enterprise. (service pack2) with all the updates

The only application that runs is :

uTorrent 1.8.3 beta build 15104

emule 049b with scarAngel mod 3.1

ESET nod32 business edition ver 3.0.684.0

and

Black ICE 3.6 cqs

All the next things i try with out the emule runnig:

I read all the guides

I made the speed test

I made the rules for the antivirus excluding the directories of uTorrent and the application, i turn off the web protection, and set de advance option like it's say in the guides.

I open all the ports on the Black ICE

uTorrent

Network status : OK (green)

Connection

Port for incoming connections : 48312 (fixed)

Enable UPnP port mapping uncheck

Enable NAT-PMP port mapping uncheck

Add Windows Firewall exception check

Bandwidht

Maximun upload = 13

Maximun download = 0

Global maximun number of connections = 80

Maximun number of connected peers per torrent = 35

Number of upload slots per torrent = 3

use additional upload slots if.... <90% check

Bittorrent

Enable DHT Network = uncheck

Enable DHT for new torrents = uncheck

Limit local peer bandwidth = uncheck

(the other options are check)

Protocol encription = Forced / Allow incoming legacy connection CHECK !

Queueing

Maximun number of active torrents = 5

Maximun number of active downloads = 3

the rest here uncheck

I use the scheduler to limit connection and use eMule

The connection test result are

test down up

1 499,92 145,28

2 501,2 145,2

3 502,32 147,04

4 522 162

5 611 154

6 473 143

7 523 167

Average 518,92 151,93

Kbytes 64,865 18,99125

70%Speed 45,4055 13,293875

The maximun speed i reach is 81,7k DOWN and 12,7 UP

In the log i see a lot of messages:

Too many global conns (but i think the parameters are ok )

and Cant sync DH3 (according to the guides here is not a problem)

I use windows 2003 because i don't use the PC for anything else... i have a Mac for the rest of things.

And Windows 2003 is more stable and secure

I have a cisco 677 aDSL modem

an a Time Capsule 1TB

on the Time capsule i open all ports for the PC

The PC are connect wired with a GigaBit intel card.

I don't have virus or trojans i check

Any ideas ?

Please i think the speed could be better

If i change the firewall ? for wich one ? any ideas ?

Thanks a lot in advance

Yes you are right

But regarding this , the setup are ok ?

( The down speed from the test page of my provider show that are all ok)

The test i made are all for USA site of the guide, and in Argentina , all the providers don't have good speed outside Argentina :(

Do you know if i have the connection set ok ?

any ideas ?

Thanks a lot

Connection numbers look good, but the slots may be problematic. If you only will upload @ 13, your 5 torrents * 3 slots means you may be putting out < 1 KiBps to each peer connected which isn't ideal.

If you go to Switeck's "2nd" link in the signature you could change it closer to the xx/128 or xx/160 numbers ... keep in mind as you increase the NUMBER of active TORRENTS, you should decrease the number of slots. I'd shoot for 5-6 upload slots with those (expected) international speeds.

It also works better for in-country connections, when you upload more to them they will send you more :)

Thanks a lot !

I try this

Also, i don't know it is importat.

All the torrents are from piratbay , isohunt, eztv.

Mostly movies, tv series.

No private trackers

As long as you are forwarded through your firewall (which you are) where the torrents are from doesn't matter ;)

Just to clarify the previous post. You multiply SLOTS * TORRENTS to get the total number of 5-6 there. You really don't need 3-5 torrents downloading at once for best time-to-view... so if you lower your max # of torrents to 1 or 2 like Switeck's numbers say, use the other number for upload slots per torrent. With less slots, it may take a couple more minutes to get going at the beginning of each download, but after that it should be a more sustained experience leading to a faster viewing time.

P.S. If you only download say overnight, then it's not really relevant but still good to know how to be a good peer :D

Thanks a lot guys but i change the config to

Maximum number of active torrents to = 2

Maximum number of active downloads = 1

bandwidth

Maximun upload = 17

Maximun download = 0

Global maximun = 50

maximum number of connected peers = 30

number of upload slots = 3

I still have the same errors , my download speed drops to 31K

Whats wrong ?

I take the config for 192 kbits/sec

I think my connection are in 320 kbit/sec, but you know than i... so ... i set the 192 kbits

Please help!

Thanks guys

The line was tested and repair few days ago and all parameters are ok i saw the result.

I have a friend working on the ISP that showme the test results and confirms that all are ok

Ping time is not the problem i think i have an average of 617ms to yahoo.com

I disabled nod32 the speed are 62k.

Do you have a sugestion for an antivurus to work better with uTorrent, i am open to suggestion :)

And a firewall to :)

I dont use a linux box because the emule, i have some things downloading and the version of emule for linux is not working propelly so... i keep on win for a while..

Whell i Remove the firewall after all the Time Capsule have a firewall

And also remove the antivirus i try with prevx.

I have very bad experience with avg, i scan a computer time ago with Mcaffe and find a lot of virus when AVG report nothing, so i try prevx.

I run the test for Glasnost

Here is the result, hope it's help

Is BitTorrent traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6883) throttled?

* The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP upload achieved at least 6 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved at most 19 Kbps. You can find details here.

* The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10011) throttled?

* The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Yes i know.... :(

I told you so, the international connections are a problem here...

But you see any wrong with profile / connections ?

I try to live knowing that the international connection is not perfect :)

Firewall out , Prevx instaled (exclude emule, and utorrent) still on 60K down

Have you tested with a local OpenOffice or Slackware mirror, to see if it's better? http://distribution.openoffice.ord/p2p/ or http://slackware.com/torrents/

The speeds may be better if you're doing it during different times of day, or without any legacy connections allowed.

The numbers you listed should be fine. It's just a shame there's really bad connections out of your national boundaries ;) Maybe you should look up some local torrent trackers / sites to verify that you're getting what you're paying for.

If download speed reaches 60 KB/sec on the test torrents (mentioned in 1st link of my signature), then that's probably all your connection will let you do.

(60 KB/sec would still be ~500 kilobits/second...better than some of your speed test results!)
