If you had a Process Explorer DLL list it may help moreso when that happened... but

HAVE you scanned with a dedicated anti-rootkit/trojan scanner like MBAM I mentioned above?

It's got nothing to do with me. I happened to avail myself of a friend's broken PC. There is no shortage of exploits out there. Keep your machine patched. Update it, especially Adobe Acrobat! I'm even a proponent now for Windows Automatic Update (highly irregular, let me tell you). MBAM happened to be the easiest to use program I had to use to get rid of the rootkit which was the root cause (in that case). Not everyone is infected with the same things, but the broad spectrum analysis AntiMalware does, is a great minimum for those who want to keep their computers safe. Just an AV isn't enough anymore (though detection rates vary, with Avira being near the top, "common" suites are closer to the bottom when it comes to rootkit/trojan detection) :/

EDIT: I wonder if it would be too weird asking what people cleaned up off their comps, lol Maybe it's just the perverse nature of getting infected. The afforementioned PC for instance had the TDSS rootkit which creates/loads/hides a system service and injects itself into basically everything. The secondary infection was Virut, an EXE patcher, so I had to restore the entire \windows and \windows\system32 directories from disk, and then promptly READ-ONLYd the folders. Strangely \Program Files was unaffected.

Kaspersky is good.. So is avira antivir, at least as far as trojans are concerned. It was the only "main" suite which recognized my infected files.

I have scanned my PC with avast for viruses - none was found.

I have also downloaded Ad Aware and scanned the PC for spyware, found 4 and deleted them, but the error persists...so I decided to register here hoping you can help me solve the problem.

problem still persist, reinstalling utorrent/doing thorough virus&malware scans didnt fix it..

basically, whenever i add a new torrent i get the same error and after i restart the client the torrent is gone, sigh.
