the "99%" problem

This happened randomly.

I'm a user of a BT download website.Many users encountered this problem:

Create a new torrent with utorrent and added it to download list later after,then utorrent will auto rehash the files.But sometimes utorrent said that it's 99% completed.

How can this happen?All files are the same before and after the torrent is created.

I found one thing in common is that they made the torrents with some chinese filenames in it.Hope you guys can confirm this.

Yes I noticed that. I know the behavior of uTorrent when you skip files (in a multi-files torrent) and you force a recheck, uT discards edge pieces, but here that sounds a little bit different.

I loaded a torrent but all peers were blocked (55%) and me too.

So I found the same torrent in ddl and I downloaded it.

To unblock the other peers, I decided to seed it. So I forced a recheck the torrent after moving the files into the storage directory.

uT displayed 99.9%. Same thing if I reloaded the torrent into uT.

And every peer is blocked to 99.9%.

So my question is: does uT discard the last piece which are not complete? (I mean a fraction of piece size, here 1MB)

AFAIK, it doesn't literally delete the data from disk. It simply marks that piece as undownloaded/incomplete and tries to redownload it (and if it manages to complete the piece, it'll overwrite the data).

Yes, I know that (it's the same thing after a forced recheck).

The fact is this torrent comes from a private tracker (but the .torrent is indexed on public indexer like Mininova with public announces added) and all public peers were blocked to finish it.

To seed it, I got it by ddl but the last piece stays red after a forced recheck even if I got the entire torrent.

Tonight I opened an account on the private tracker to see if that will make a difference to finish to download the remaining 0.1%. uT has added the announce to the current torrent job and began to download the missing last piece... :/

I am still having this problem... Last time I was told it was a RAM problem and a FORCE RECHECK would show wrong results because of my RAM problem. So I have not force rechecked anything after downloading since then... but... now this is causing a problem for others.

I decided to add a torrent so my friends could fetch some files from me... when uploading the torrent to the tracker it force rechecked the file and found errors with it and was only 98.7% there after all! This meant no one would be able to get 100% of the torrent! I had to get the admin of the site involved because I could not delete my torrent off their site.

Recently I chose all the files I am seeding and was going to do a "update tracker" but selected FORCE RECHECK by accident... and HALF of my files were 98% to 99%... Luckily someone is still seeding many of them, or I would be stuck with all these 99% files, that would never finish!

Is there no other way to have the porgram FORCE RECHECK other than by using RAM, since it seems so many people have bad RAM? (I did run a program that was pointed out and that said my RAM was fine. Therefore there is only one thing that can be wrong.) - I don't remember having had such precision problems before using uTorrent... I am using it because others advised it.

:/ It sucks that all people's computers don't work equally well. In your case, if you're up for more troubleshooting... some more information on your system may help. Like OS, CPU NIC ... or providing the HiJackThis and process explorer logs to be thorough.

Looking at your Files tab when this happens, is it in the same place? Similar to moogly's demonstration pic, where are the red pieces in your torrents? And this doesn't happen on all files?

Hey there and thanks for your response. I am ALL for trying to find out what is causing this, especially since I just found out a 5.5 gb torrent I have been seeding to people had 4 errors in it, and this after I triple FORCE RECHECKed it. I just wonder if other people are getting 100% of it, or the forced recheck on my computer is wrong... and the files are there, but missing some parts, that are really there? - I don't know, it seems so strange, and it's been like this since I started using uTorrent...

I noticed the faults are totally random. SOmetimes at the end, sometimes in the middle. It's very strange mainly because I KNOW people wouldn't distribute a program, or get the following uTorrent has got if everyone else was getting these force recheck errors.

I will have to get HijackThis... and will post here if it helps.

Im having the same issue. If i create a torrent and then seed it it only goes to 99.9%

If i do it on another PC via network share it does 100% but then when i throw the same torrent file to my original PC 99.9% again. USING THE SAME FILE SOURCE???

Another important note:

If i remove the tiny readme.txt file from the folder. The torrent creates and checks out fine?

ill try memtest but i think this is odd, never had memory issues with anything else.
