Utor03
Linksys WRTG54 routerQwest M1000 modem: firewall disabled, routing disabledPort Checker: Port 54828 does not appear to be open.Speed test: 2.0 Mb/s D/L, 0.5 Mb/s UL400+ kB/s when D/L'ing slackware Windows XP SP2Guides tried: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 http://www.utorrent.com/documentation/connection-setupI've been trying to fix my connection for a bit now and I have tried the guides here. I've done the port forwarding, made exceptions in my firewall and any suggestions written in other threads. I also checked my ISP and it isn't listed as one that throttles P2P and I've made certain the modem isn't acting as a second router. Also made sure to have a static IP as suggested. The connectable icon has gone from mostly yellow and sometimes green to mostly red. Can't really tell if it has limited my speed as my UL is going at the suggested max and my DL varies. Any suggestions to fix the connection?Edit: I am unsure as to whether I should move this to the Speed section, just say so I need to.
Ultima
What have you set your computer's static IP to? And what does the Speed Guide show your current settings to be?
Utor03
The ip I'm using is 192.168.1.106 which I attained when I ran the ipconfig in command. The Speed Guide settings are:Connection Type: xx/512kUL Limit: 47 kb/s UL Slots: 4Connections (per torrent): 90 Connections (global): 250Max Active: 3 Max Active DL's:
Ultima
Chances are, that IP is within the router's DHCP range -- which is a bad thing. You'll need to double-check that, though. At any rate, you need to find out what your router's DHCP range is, then set your static IP to be outside of it (so if the range is 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.149, an IP like 192.168.1.50 would be considered as "outside" the range).
Utor03
I'm not sure how to find the exact DHCP range but from looking at the router config, it says the DHCP server starts at 192.168.1.100 and allows for 50 users. So should I just use anything above 192.168.1.151?
Ultima
Yes, that should be fine. Be sure to forward the port to that new IP.
Utor03
Well I've tried as suggested but when I try to add a port forward range it says "Port overlap occurred! Please change you're entry!"
Ultima
Remove any other port forwarding rule for the same port.
Utor03
Sorry for the erratic responses but the site keeps dropping out for me. The new IP being used is 192.168.1.151 and the port has been forwarded for the IP. The port checker in the Speed Guide stills says it isn't forwarded and the connectalbe icon is yellow. Ultima
So... what firewall are you using? Is there any other device connected between your computer and the modem?
Utor03
The personal firewall on my laptop is the one included in Norton Internet Security 2009. The settings for it have an exception for uTorrent. I'm not sure what the firewall on the router is but it is allowing Anonymous Internet Requests. The firewall on the Actiontec M1000 modem is disabled.
Ultima
Just for clarification, when you say that routing has been disabled on the Actiontec, you mean that you've set it to bridge mode (or some equivalent), right? Can you try uninstalling NIS 2009 temporarily (enable Windows Firewall, and let µTorrent create an exception for it) to see if the problem persists? If so, can you try connecting the computer directly to the modem to see if the problem then persists?
Utor03
The Actiontec modem being used needs a separate module to act as a router and I don't have the module so the function is unusable. I have uninstalled NIS and let Utor go through the windows firewall (I only got NIS 1 week ago and had mostly yellow icon before as well) and the icon is the same. The same can be said with a direct connection to the modem, no speed increase or icon status change.
Ultima
Hrm. What does the network status light's tooltip show? Any error in the µTorrent Logger tab look particularly relevant? Have you changed Preferences > Advanced > net.bind_ip or net.outgoing_ip in any way?
Utor03
It just says "No incoming connections" and I haven't changed the net.bind_ip or net.outgoing_ip or recalled it as a suggestion in any of the guides I've tried.Edit: The status icon changed to green as I submitted the response, it does this sometimes but always returns to yellow after a few minutes. Ultima
Switching between green and yellow isn't a problem, and should be considered normal. What I'm most curious about is why the port checker telling you that the port is closed, and yet, µTorrent is seeing an incoming connection (otherwise, there would be no way for the light to turn green). If the IP address shown in the port checker is of the form w.x.y.z, what is the y.z portion of the IP? Ultima
Heh, I asked for y.z so that you wouldn't have to give your whole IP. At any rate, that rules out proxy servers being an issue. Are you using PeerGuardian?http://www.canyouseeme.org/What does this site report?I'm running out of ideas as to what could be the problem here, unfortunately :\ The only consolation I can give is (as mentioned above) that the fact that µTorrent's network status light is even turning green indicates that you can receive incoming connections, meaning the port likely is open. Utor03
Sorry about that, I am using PG2 but I'm fairly certain uTorrent has an allowance. canyouseeme.org gives me this:Error: I could not see your service on 224.194 on port (54828)Reason: Connection refused. The PFPortChecker program also says the port is not open.
