regunus Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 Hey everyone. I got a problem and i'm trying to find a solution if possible.Recently I got an Intel NAS SS4200. After loading it with 4 x 1.5TB Seagate disks i tried to start downloading using utorrent, directly to my NAS.The problem is that i'm getting the "element not found" error all the time. Usually this happens with large files (around 4.5GB+).The disks are in parity raid using as effective storage the 3 of them.I checked the FAQ (http://www.utorrent.com/faq/errors#faq11) and the settings are as directed. Unfortunatelly the problem remains.Any ideas on this one? Thanks in advance.
dtjohnst Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I did a forum search and found this:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=2869&p=1It's also the third hit if you google "element not found nas". Perhaps you can find a solution by going through the steps in there. If not, let us know here and post the information asked for in that thread.
regunus Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 thanks a lot! I'll check the link your provided me.I googled the phrase "element not found nas" about 500 times I couldn't find anything tbh
jewelisheaven Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Coalesce Write Size was made configurable to solve this... but then the person using the NAS also told us of a Windows feature called LargeSystemCache .. ah-ha http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=371752#p371752Like dtjohnst says, poke at it some, report findings, and settings you think are relevant and anything you changed.
regunus Posted May 17, 2009 Author Report Posted May 17, 2009 LargeSystemCache is disabled. At least that's what I think. I checked my registry and it's value is "0". So i guess it's off.I'm currently working some other toughts I saw on that thread. I'll let you know if I make this stupid error go away edit : tried anything... nothing works, problem still remains
jewelisheaven Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 And just for the record, your compact_allocation is FALSE, you're using sparse_files and you're not skipping files? Have you tried reducing the coalesce_write value?
regunus Posted May 18, 2009 Author Report Posted May 18, 2009 compact allocation : FalseSparse files : FalseI didn't try to reduce the coalesce_write. I will try and tell you the results. Also I will activate the Sparse files...Thanks for the tips edit : nope. still getting this error :(
jewelisheaven Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Another tact, you're saving over a set UNC path yes? What is that path? What does your Ctrl-P > Directories look like?Is there any way to attach the NAS via 1394 Firewire or USB? I must admit I only have had partial experience with NAS in the form of http://drobo.com so ... now sure if all have additional connectors besides LAN.
regunus Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 Sorry for taking me so long to reply. I was out of town. My NAS is connected only via Ethernet. My NAS Folders are 3 and they're mapped as network drives using windows xp. not sure what kind of OS Intel is using on that NAS though.
jewelisheaven Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Have you had a chance to alter the write_size Advanced setting?? Given the "basic" storage-on-the-line service the Ethernet connector provides that's all I'm left with unfortunately. You know the lame thing, this thread is result #2 for Intel NAS ss4200 on google :/ So are you using the -E or -EHW http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/Storage-Systems/SS4200-E/SS4200-E-specifications.htm http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/Storage-Systems/SS4200-EHW/SS4200-EHW-specifications.htmIs it possible for you to connect via USB or Firewire to test whether the exact same setup on the same torrents shows the same problem? Would you be willing to test, heh
regunus Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 It's the -E (exact name : INTEL SS4200-E ENTRY STORAGE SYSTEM ).It cannot be connected via USB or firewire. Even if it was possible it would be kinda useless actually because the data on NAS must be server in 5 PCs I just set the write_size to 524288 which is a quarter of default value if i'm not mistaken.Same problem Something I forgot to report is that when I start a download with a decent ammount of seeders I get my top d/l speed, which is around 1.6-1.7 MB/s. After a few seconds the d/l speed starts droping fast and eventually just before it hits bottom I get the "Element not found" error.I make 10-20 "Force Start"s and then the download rolls normaly.
jewelisheaven Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 So the problem does not persist when set to .5 MiB ?It sounds like some buffer is being filled, then, boom. This volume, do you know whether it's NTFS? Is your diskio.sparse_files set to TRUE now after post #7? The thing is, on NTFS, whether a file is sparse or not is set on creation, so maybe you should play with a smaller torrent, to either get the error to occur or not occur the starting point being of course http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ as I don't know of many free multi-homed torrents < 120 MiB.
regunus Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 I don't think it's NTFS. Propably it's ext3 but not sure. The problem is not solved when I set the write_size to 0.5mibdiskio.sparse_files is "TRUE"
