jewelisheaven
We don't know the context you're asking. TO hash data you pipe it though a hashing function. Many people include MD5 when offering downloads. BitTorrent pieces on the other hand use SHA-

jewelisheaven
It's just another hashing function http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-1 Webster knows dictionary definitions, useful for words/phrases, not for ideas/concepts. Unfortunately Wikipedia is the best at that.
