Mountbatten
when running utorrent in vista (home premium 32, on 1.6Ghz laptop, 1gb ram), I regularly experience 10 to 20 second freeze-ups, the title bar states 'not responding'. this will happen;-when i take a lot of actions within utorrent, (such as minimising/maximizing, dragging window, clicking between different sections of utorrent) especially after moving to it from another application-when i open a torrent (if i open a few at the same time i get the vista message "It seems like uTorrent is already running, but not responding.". it will respond after 15 seconds)this has been going on for some months. the freeze never turns into a crash, i just have to be patient, but when working a lot with utorrent this becomes a chore.this morning i uninstalled nod32, and installed avg, the scan was clean. i also ran cleanup utilities and fixed all windows/registry problems, however the problem is still there. i have previously ran an older version of utorrent on this system, the problems only started after i followed a prompt to update it. however when i uninstalled and tried the old version again (1.7.7) the freezes kept occuring. I am back to using utorrent 1.8.2. the only firewall i have running is windows firewall.[edit] - I'd like to add, i've run the task manager to monitor cpu usage when the freezes occur, and its never higher than 20%.[edit 2] - new logfile 2 posts down

DreadWingKnight
Try without tuneup defrag active. Also, your system still has remnants of other malware on it.
Mountbatten
thanks for your help. i looked into disabling the tuneup defrag and the only way to do it seems to be a registry hack. as the problem with utorrent had started months before i installed tuneup, i'm not sure it would help. but if you're convinced it would cause problems i'll go ahead with the hack.there are other vista errors i have had that may tie in with the utorrent problem. for one i regularly got "COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working" errors, which stopped after i downloaded the vista codec pack. also, for reasons i can't quite remember, something to do with driver issues, when i first bought my laptop i turned off "User Account Control". any (preferably free) program you'd recommend to get rid of that malware?[solved] - well, I upgraded my ram from 1gb to 2gb. since then there have been no problems. i thought that utorrent had such a small footprint that ram would not be an issue, but just simply running vista must be a drain on the memory.
