Hiroshi Mishima
Okay, I looked all over and I can't figure this out. I'm not very good at figuring this stuff out, but I'm pretty sure I haven't encountered anything like this in the threads/forums I've looked at. So I'm coming here in the hopes that someone here will be able to help. For a good few years, uTorrent has never given me problems, and as late as last week worked fine. Today, I go to turn it on, and I can't get it to open. The icon appears in the system tray, and I can hover the mouse over it, but when I right click nothing happens and indeed the whole computer seems to freeze up a bit until I do something else. I left click to open it up, it doesn't respond right away, then when it DOES open, it's just a white box with the utorrent title bar at the top.I did update to the most recent version, same problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing. I've restarted the computer a couple times, nothing. Also, when the window pops up and I've switched to another window, I can't switch back. I try to close it and it tells me it is unresponsive. Although I can minimize it just fine, I can't remaximize it afterwards. Here is the HijackThis information:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 9:35:45 PM, on 5/26/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16791)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS.0\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\LEXBCES.EXEC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\LEXPPS.EXEC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\Smtray.exeC:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\WiFiConnector\NintendoWFCReg.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\lxczcoms.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exeC:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exeC:\Program Files\Skype\Plugin Manager\skypePM.exeC:\PROGRA~1\MOZILLA.ORG\MOZILLA\MOZILLA.EXEC:\Program Files\mIRC\mirc.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Hiroshi Mishima\Desktop\ProcessExplorer\procexp.exeC:\WINDOWS.0\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation\infocard.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Hiroshi Mishima\Desktop\HiJackThis\HijackThis.exeC:\Program Files\uTorrent\utorrent.exeR1 - Ultima
:\Is µTorrent's CPU usage high? When you uninstalled, did that include removing %appdata%\uTorrent?Also...When µTorrent freezes, you can actually force a crash dump to be generated, like so:In the Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer, look for the [PID] of the µTorrent process. From there, File > Run > ntsd.exe -p [PID] -e [PID] -c ".dump c:\jit.dmp;q"where [PID] needs to be replaced with the PID of the µTorrent process found in the process list viewer (don't include square brackets). The resulting dump can be found as c:\jit.dmp. Do this when µTorrent hangs, and post the dump.Under Windows Vista, ntsd.exe no longer comes installed by default. In this case, users can force a crash dump to be generated via Task Manager's right-click context menu for the µTorrent process, compress it, then upload it.Upload the dump to mediafire.com or savefile.com. Hiroshi Mishima
Well, the Mem Usage is usually around 12,000K or so. It normally doesn't eat up much CPU at all when running normally. While running it now, it definitely says it is using 00 CPU. As for the other information..http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mmqx2zjmdmxThat is the dump file. I hope I did it correctly. Ultima
Keep in mind that I was asking about CPU usage when it was frozen, and the crash dump should be created when it's frozen too. Is that the case with what you've provided?
Hiroshi Mishima
Yeah, it's still in the same condition that it's been since last night. I refuses to respond entirely and the only way to close it down is via Task Manager/Process Explorer. I don't entirely know if that really qualifies as frozen, but it's as close as I suppose it can get if it isn't.All the information I've provided has been under that strange unresponsive/apparently frozen/not responding condition. I'm really baffled as to what's causing it. I typically turn off Kaspersky when I run utorrent most of the time, and this time was no exception. But on the few occasions I did leave it on, I've never had this problem before. Feels like every year something goes wrong on my computer...EDIT: Also, I'm sorry if I come off rude or apprehensive. It's just been a long month and this is yet another problem.
Ultima
I don't see anything wrong with what you've provided thus far that would point at an obvious culprit. It's really odd :\One oddity though, is the fact that I see Symantec entries in your HijackThis log. Can you run the Norton Removal utility to make sure remnants of the software aren't conflicting with anything? If that doesn't help, can you try uninstalling Kaspersky (not just disabling it or shutting it down)? Security softwares don't go away from memory even if their UI says it's disabled, or if you "exit" them (shutting it down really means you shut down the UI, not the security protection). Hiroshi Mishima
I can try uninstalling Kaspersky and seeing if that helps, but it's never been an issue before. Also, I have no idea why I'd have Symantic entries, I've never used any Norton software on this computer because I know how much trouble Norton is and what it's done to some of my relatives' computers. But yeah, I'll try the Kaspersky suggestion, and I'll run the Norton Removal Tool just in case.EDIT: I have no idea what caused it, but I did both of those and it started working fine again. I probably should have run the NRT before uninstalling Kaspersky because now I have to hunt down my installation CD again... but I'm glad it works again. Thank you.I still have no idea what or how Norton was on my computer, but I'm glad it's been removed. You wouldn't know how to remove those things talking about Juno would you? I've had no luck removing them on my own.. but this is probably the wrong place to ask. Thanks again.
