Switeck Posted April 19, 2008 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2008 I guess I need to ask if the chart, as I have changed it, is typically understandable at 1024x768 with Internet Exploiter (Explorer) maximized...seeing as I have no intentions of putting I.E. on this computer.Even if my suggestions are almost entirely scrapped, there are 2 that I feel cannot be ignored and need to be placed in uTorrent soon:1.bells, whistles, sirens, glowing big red blinking letters if we have to...to express upload not download max!2.The default setting when people forgot to enter any settings at all should be conservative...lest people think "ah, it doesn't NEED to be set for my connection, it runs 'great' without any!" -- but still good enough settings that they are decent seeders and get at least semi-decent download speeds in return.Any setting higher than 1.5 megabits/sec really doesn't matter much at all. Although more and more people have lines that fast, generally these are the people who paid extra (for a premium, faster line) knowing what they want and hopefully what to expect. ...They won't be satisfied with standard specs and will tweak everything anyway. (Think overclockers that aren't nuts. ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ultima Posted April 20, 2008 Report Share Posted April 20, 2008 It's not really a matter of resolution -- it's a matter of the default forum skin having the disgusting fixed-width style. jewelisheaven Posted June 22, 2008 Report Share Posted June 22, 2008 Start at, or manually apply the numbers corresponding to your upload speed under Preferences for number of torrents, connections per torrent and upload slots. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Switeck Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 23, 2008 superaki,You have 1 megabit/second upload speed...so you plug the values in my chart for 1 megabits/second:Upload Speed Limit: 92 KiloBYTES/secondUpload slots PER torrent: 6Global Connections max: 200Per-torrent Connection max: 60Max active Torrents: 7Max downloading Torrents: 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Hyosung Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 Just curious as I was just browsing the forums... For my Connection, I have a 4MB/1MB(Supposedly) Connection.So according to THIS (Threads) settings:700 kilobits/second | 65 | 5 | 45 | 140 | 5 | 3 |Should I use these or the ones that are given in the Speed Guide in uTorrent? 1 megabit /second | 0(I didn't limit it) | 5 | 100 | 450 | 5 | 4 |Thanks.---EDIT:Actually when Ia m Uploading.. I do hit about 90kB/s, so dunno if that makes a difference... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jewelisheaven Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 It's possible you can use the 1 Mbit since you've got 90 KiB upload but you shouldn't set the upload limit higher than you can sustain while ALSO downloading at your expected ~ 400 KiBps. Hyosung Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 @jewelisheaven: So basically use the Speed Guide's recommendation for 1Mbit upload? Or the one that is listed on the first post? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jewelisheaven Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 Either would work. It's up to personal preference IMO what people use as their connections settings with > 512 Kbps upload. More than that, and as your upload increases so does the leeway for variability. The main condition you need to observe is the upload limit below the sustained limit you can output. If it's 90, increase it gradually until you notice your download decrease. Usually it manifests as a sudden decrease in throughput DOWN as the uploaded data and overhead hits the cap and there's no more bandwidth for download.SOPs to be aware of, try to keep 3 KiBps / peer... so you appear as a more favourable peer. Hyosung Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 All rights, thanks for the tip, so it is never wise to NOT limit the Upload Limit? As I generally have it at 'Unlimited', unless I want to play games then I limit it down to 60kBps Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Firon Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 You're generally better off limiting the upload, even if just a little for more consistent performance. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Hyosung Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 Okays shall just use the Speed Guide within uTorrent and leave the limit on, thanks for the tips. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Firon Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 You can raise the limit higher than the Speed Guide suggests, in the alternative upload rate setting. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ultima Posted July 12, 2008 Report Share Posted July 12, 2008 @Switeck: I was just playing around with the table a bit in an attempt to decrease the overall width so that it stops being ugly on Opera or IE with the default forum skin (Kontrast)... So um, have a look-see, and feel free to replace the first post with the one you'd prefer *hint* *hint* xD╔══════════════════╦════════════╦═══════════╦══════════╗║ CONNECTION TYPE ║ UPLOAD ║CONNECTIONS║MAX ACTIVE║║ (UPLOAD MAXIMUM) ║Limit │Slots║ Per │Glob.║Tor.│Down.║╠══════════════════╬══════╪═════╬═════╪═════╬════╪═════╣║ DEFAULT ║ 20│ 3║ 30│ 40║ 2│ 1║║ Dial═up (28.8k) ║ 2│ 1║ 5│ 7║ 1│ 1║║ Dial═up (56k) ║ 3│ 1║ 7│ 10║ 1│ 1║║ Single ISDN (64k)║ 5│ 2║ 10│ 15║ 1│ 1║║ Dual ISDN (128k) ║ 9│ 3║ 20│ 25║ 1│ 1║║ 64 kbit/sec ║ 5│ 2║ 25│ 30║ 1│ 1║║ 80 kbit/sec ║ 6│ 2║ 25│ 30║ 1│ 1║║ 96 kbit/sec ║ 7│ 3║ 25│ 30║ 1│ 1║║ 128 kbit/sec ║ 9│ 3║ 30│ 35║ 1│ 1║║ 160 kbit/sec ║ 13│ 3║ 30│ 40║ 1│ 1║║ 192 kbit/sec ║ 17│ 3║ 30│ 50║ 2│ 1║║ 224 kbit/sec ║ 20│ 3║ 35│ 55║ 2│ 1║║ 256 kbit/sec ║ 22│ 3║ 35│ 60║ 2│ 1║║ 320 kbit/sec ║ 29│ 3║ 35│ 80║ 3│ 1║║ 384 kbit/sec ║ 35│ 4║ 40│ 90║ 3│ 2║║ 448 kbit/sec ║ 40│ 4║ 40│ 100║ 3│ 2║║ 512 kbit/sec ║ 47│ 4║ 40│ 100║ 4│ 2║║ 640 kbit/sec ║ 60│ 5║ 45│ 120║ 4│ 3║║ 700 kbit/sec ║ 65│ 5║ 45│ 140║ 5│ 3║║ 768 kbit/sec ║ 72│ 5║ 50│ 150║ 5│ 4║║ 800 kbit/sec ║ 75│ 5║ 50│ 160║ 6│ 4║║ 900 kbit/sec ║ 82│ 5║ 55│ 180║ 6│ 4║║ 1 mbit/sec ║ 92│ 6║ 60│ 200║ 7│ 5║║ 1.5 mbit/sec ║ 140│ 7║ 80│ 250║ 8│ 6║║ 2 mbit/sec ║ 186│ 8║ 100│ 300║ 10│ 8║║ 5 mbit/sec ║ 560│ 10║ 100│ 400║ 15│ 10║║ 10 mbit/sec ║ 1120│ 20║ 100│ 500║ 20│ 15║║ 20 mbit/sec ║ 2240│ 25║ 125│ 600║ 25│ 20║║ 40 mbit/sec ║ 4480│ 28║ 140│ 700║ 30│ 20║║ 50 mbit/sec ║ 5600│ 30║ 150│ 800║ 40│ 25║║ 100 mbit/sec ║ 11200│ 40║ 200│ 1000║ 100│ 30║║ 200 mbit/sec ║ 22400│ 40║ 200│ 1500║ 125│ 35║║ 500 mbit/sec ║ 50000│ 50║ 250│ 2000║ 150│ 40║║ 1 gbit/sec ║100000│ 60║ 300│ 5000║ 200│ 50║╚══════════════════╩══════╧═════╩═════╧═════╩════╧═════╝Red = Added Speed Settings!.------------------------------------------------------.| CONNECTION TYPE | UPLOAD |CONNECTIONS|MAX ACTIVE|| (UPLOAD MAXIMUM) |Limit |Slots| Per |Glob.|Tor.|Down.||------------------+------+-----+-----+-----+----+-----|| DEFAULT | 20| 3| 30| 40| 2| 1|| Dial-up (28.8k) | 2| 1| 5| 7| 1| 1|| Dial-up (56k) | 3| 1| 7| 10| 1| 1|| Single ISDN (64k)| 5| 2| 10| 15| 1| 1|| Dual ISDN (128k) | 9| 3| 20| 25| 1| 1|| 64 kbit/sec | 5| 2| 25| 30| 1| 1|| 80 kbit/sec | 6| 2| 25| 30| 1| 1|| 96 kbit/sec | 7| 3| 25| 30| 1| 1|| 128 kbit/sec | 9| 3| 30| 35| 1| 1|| 160 kbit/sec | 13| 3| 30| 40| 1| 1|| 192 kbit/sec | 17| 3| 30| 50| 2| 1|| 224 kbit/sec | 20| 3| 35| 55| 2| 1|| 256 kbit/sec | 22| 3| 35| 60| 2| 1|| 320 kbit/sec | 29| 3| 35| 80| 3| 1|| 384 kbit/sec | 35| 4| 40| 90| 3| 2|| 448 kbit/sec | 40| 4| 40| 100| 3| 2|| 512 kbit/sec | 47| 4| 40| 100| 4| 2|| 640 kbit/sec | 60| 5| 45| 120| 4| 3|| 700 kbit/sec | 65| 5| 45| 140| 5| 3|| 768 kbit/sec | 72| 5| 50| 150| 5| 4|| 800 kbit/sec | 75| 5| 50| 160| 6| 4|| 900 kbit/sec | 82| 5| 55| 180| 6| 4|| 1 mbit/sec | 92| 6| 60| 200| 7| 5|| 1.5 mbit/sec | 140| 7| 80| 250| 8| 6|| 2 mbit/sec | 186| 8| 100| 300| 10| 8|| 5 mbit/sec | 560| 10| 100| 400| 15| 10|| 10 mbit/sec | 1120| 20| 100| 500| 20| 15|| 20 mbit/sec | 2240| 25| 125| 600| 25| 20|| 40 mbit/sec | 4480| 28| 140| 700| 30| 20|| 50 mbit/sec | 5600| 30| 150| 800| 40| 25|| 100 mbit/sec | 11200| 40| 200| 1000| 100| 30|| 200 mbit/sec | 22400| 40| 200| 1500| 125| 35|| 500 mbit/sec | 50000| 50| 250| 2000| 150| 40|| 1 gbit/sec |100000| 60| 300| 5000| 200| 50|'------------------------------------------------------'Red = Added Speed Settings! jewelisheaven Posted July 12, 2008 Report Share Posted July 12, 2008 It doesn't line-up again with Radium forum skin :/ What is different between default forum skin? Is it the spacing when bold or just the fact they're not monospace fonts? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ultima Posted July 13, 2008 Report Share Posted July 13, 2008 Works perfectly fine on Radium. The fonts are monospace -- if you don't see it as such, then you're probably using some crappy monospace font that doesn't have fixed-width bolding (with respect to unbolded characters). I feel like I've mentioned this to you before too Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
