andy33 Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 i really enjoy utorrent and i want to give as much as i get with out haveing to leave my computer on all the time. is it better to just seed for say a week or seed untill it reaches a certin ratio?i have a fiberoptic connection so its pretty fast and i dont no how long is long enough for seeding? please any helpfull comments would be appreciated!!!!!
GTHK Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 The longer you seed the more it'll benefit others.
Switeck Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 If you're on a torrent with more seeds than peers and you've already reached even 0.5 ratio...you don't NEED to seed it anymore unless it's on a private tracker that records your ratio. But any torrent that has fewer seeds than peers, particularly that has very few seeds, could almost always use more help.
andy33 Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Firstly thank you both for you comments, i appreciate your time.whats a private tracker? how can you tell if your on one? as i said id much rather give as much as i get then just be a parasite hence my trying to understand the process and be a good torrenter! i guess thats all im asking how can i be a good neighbor to you all and whats all those links about in your post switeck?particularly the speed settings. if set rite will that make things go faster?i tried to run the speed tests and all that but just got real confused so i left it be.
Switeck Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Yes, my speed guide should make your uTorrent at least marginally faster for "average" public torrents. You need to know how fast your max upload speed is though to use it...the pick the closest but lower settings on my chart. So if you have 2 megabit/sec upload max (about 200-230 KiloBYTE/second upload speed), then that's the settings you'd choose from my chart. You can slowly increase/decrease upload speed max to see if you can fine-tune uTorrent further, especially considering at very fast settings there's often over 100 KB/sec upload speed max difference between 1 and the next.
