1.8.3 self uninstalling..

I mentioned this to Swi on Irc other night but still having same issues. I'm assuming this is a pc issue and not software but just to be sure and if anyone has any ideas.. would be greatly appreciated.

I've had previous versions of uTorrent installed and never any problems. I upgraded to 1.8.3 and since then after I turn off my pc and back on only the .exe is available. Everything else is gone. After doing this process 3 times.. I was just going to try to install a previous version that worked but I don't like having to do that.

I want 1.8.3 to work. No other software that I have installed before and after has had this issue. I run XP Pro ver.2002 with serv. pack 3. windows firewall is turned off. yes I do run Norton Int. Security.. i know >.>. I just do not understand why uTorrent is being singled out and how the heck it's uninstalling itself?? wth?. Had no other pc issues that I can recall.

But before I try an older version I would like to make this one work please. I also uninstalled everything and tried clean install and still nada.

oh and I tried the Irc channel 3 times over so many days and when I logged into the uTorrent rm. was empty so I finally came here.

also.. tried installing to different folders and nothing. So this happened when upgrading and clean install as well.

Thank you,

Vicious

Well here are the 2 long lists. I saw in the other thread ya'll asked people to post them and I am not able to see what could be the problem if anything.

and thank you again. If there is not anything evident that is causing any issues with uTorrent then I appreciate it anyway and I'll figure it out. I know ya'll aren't here to fix my pc issues. Building new box soon anyway. This one was passed down to me and no telling what's been installed on here in the past.

update: man wth is goin on. I was in middle of dl'ing something then the tray icon was gone and when I clicked on the desktop shortcut it started the .exe.. >.> It just vanished and I didn't even start any new programs. I closed firefox. that was it but I dont know when utorrent actually closed. I just know 5mins earlier it was downloading and now it wants me to install it again.. seriously getting old.

ASK.com Toolbar has left behind some junk that needs to be uninstalled:

O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll (file missing)

Summary : Yahoo! Companion for Internet Explorer

Description : Yahoo! Companion for Internet Explorer Browser Extension (BHO). Part of the Yahoo! Companion Software application.

This seems to be: O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Companion BHO - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\ycomp5_5_7_0.dll

So this is a leftover entry from Yahoo. Have HijackThis remove it. :)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml

Weatherbug is installed as a secondary application with many popular pieces of software including AOL Instant Messenger.

According to their website, Weatherbug is not spyware, however it is adware. It does not monitor, collect data or 'spy' on its user base, however the program is considered adware since the free version is ad-supported.

http://ww3.weatherbug.com/aws/default.asp?cid=306

I think the risk of using weatherbug is not nearly as high as claimed here:

Norton/Symantec stuff. Unfortunately, some of their products have proved over-aggressive...so check their configurations carefully. You can try completely uninstalling it to see if it clears up your problems. (Best to remove the stuff I suggested first though.) If not, re-add it if you want.

Seems to be this:

A Microsoft product, ActiveSync. I'm totally unfamiliar with it, though generally Microsoft products doesn't interfere with uTorrent. (Besides windows firewall and file indexers!)

O23 - Service: Pure Networks Platform Service (nmservice) - Cisco Systems, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmsrvc.exe

Is this a network configuration/tweaker program by Cisco Systems, or a proxy/VPN service app?

Although exceedingly unlikely...if nothing else is to blame, this might be:

mdnsNSP.dll Bonjour Namespace Provider Apple Inc. 1.0.4.12

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {7F9DB11C-E358-4ca6-A83D-ACC663939424} - (no file)

That is...

O9 - Extra button: Bonjour - {7F9DB11C-E358-4ca6-A83D-ACC663939424} - C:\Program Files\Bonjour\ExplorerPlugin.dll

Apple's Bonjour service...part of iTunes. If you've quit using iTunes, uninstall this. It should be in Add/Remove programs list -- try that first before trying to remove it using HijackThis.

Swi. Thank you very much sir your time in reviewing and providing suggestions on the above. Really appreciate it. I'll edit this reply once I do most of what you mentioned. Some things like:

Weatherbug. I use it and like it and run the free ver. w/o ads..hehe. It has never been a problem in any way.

Norton.. was installed and paid for on this box by my brother before I obtained it. Once current subscrip. ends I will use something else. It is a blackhole for my pc however.. It was running on here with old utorrent versions.

Basically everything outlined above with the exception of the askbar >.> was installed with older uT. versions. It's a mystery.. somewhere along the line something on my pc or registry said f u.

thank you again and ty for the link GTHK. will edit this once done and let u know if I had any positive results.

by the way.. I noticed someone posted a similar question regarding this problem on this forum but after one reply the thread died out. Haven't been able to google this issue with positive results. Isolated incident with self inflicted variables I presume lol.

Just an update. I removed the askbar items listed above using hijack and so far since yesterday afternoon logging off, shutting down pc several times and dl'ing 4 torrents.. I have not had any issues thus far.

So I've basically done what I previously did when the issues arose and nada.

Figure I'll give it through Sunday after I dl a few more torrents and give the pc a run through just to be sure but so far it seems it was the askbar stuff..

Which gotta be honest... if it was then that is pretty irritating guys. I unchecked 100% positive.. unchecked the askbar option the one time it showed me that option as I installed or upgraded.. can't even remember now been so many times.>.>

I thought I removed all that stuff from the registry, off firefox, out of my c: drive, etc. Apparently not. After an exhaustive search nothing came up until Hijack this found the 3 items Swi also mentioned above.

Coincidence? I'll leave that up to you guys. Perhaps those items could not in any way cause my issues of utorrent being uninstalled out of the blue.

However, so far nothing has been changed on my pc except uninstalling those Ask items and it's working like a charm. Invasive and detrimental are the 2 words that come to mind about Askbar and unappreciated even though I understand the concept behind the madness.

uTorrent is great though and it won't deter me from thanking you guys and still using it.

ty Swi for all your help and GTHK.
