uTorrent causes all other software to get Connection Timeouts

While running uTorrent 1.4 (also tried the 1.4.1 beta buil 413) all other internet software I use starts getting intermitent Connetion Timeout errors. For example when browsing web pages I will frequently (60% of the time) be told that the server timed out, but refreshing enough times will allow the page to load although usually with broken images.

As soon as I close uTorrent the problem stops. I have tried lowering my connections to as low as 15, my max downloads to 1, my net.max_halfopen to 4. None of these things seem to help.

I am running Windows 2000, on a wireless network connection to a Belkin F5D7231-4P router. My ISP is Comcast. I am also running Netlimiter 2.0.

I have a friend who also had the same problem as me. Running Windows 2000, on a different wireless router (dont know the brand). Same ISP and also running Netlimiter, but version 1.x.

I have tried disabling Netlimiter to make sure that isn't the problem, it did not solve anything. However, I did not try uninstalling Netlimiter, because I need it for other software.

No other torrent software causes this problem for me. I would like to continue using uTorrent, but I simply can't if I can't find a solution to this problem. I have read other threads that say it is a router problem, but my router is not the standard Netgear that people have reported.

Lastly, I have noticed one thing that makes me think this may be a bug in uTorrent not just over active network connections. When I stop ALL downloads in uTorrent, I still experience the problem. Upon closing uTorrent however, the problem disappears. So it doesn't seem to be related to torrents directly. Hope this helps the developers.

Sorry I forgot to mention that. I tried that already. The only thing I didn't try that I read from other threads is the suggestion to patch TCPIP.sys. Since the problem is only with uTorrent, it seems pretty crazy to run some unsupported patch on an otherwise stable system file.

Even if this problem is due to some routers "not being about to cut it". Does the uTorrent development team plan to offer a fix? Are they even looking? It seems like this is a wide enough spread problem that they should care.

Well...if you choose to run a TCPIP.SYS, crippled by Microsoft then that's totally up to you.

Just be aware, that you will have the same kind of problems with any other p2p application as well

If it's due to your Hardware...what do you expect the dev team to do about that? call your ISP and have him supply you with a decent router
