Help with "access is denied" error, please?

I've gotten this error with all of the latest torrents I've tried to download, but I've never had the problem before. The torrent will begin downloading, I'll connect to a few seeds and peers, but then it will just stop and give me the "access is denied" error.

I found a few threads on it and checked the FAQ, but nothing suggested is helping me. The files aren't read-only, I've disabled antivirus programs... and I don't think I've installed any new programs or changed settings since utorrent stopped working. It just suddenly began to come up with this error.

Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks!

I think for Vista disabling/adjusting search indexing is what's needed, give it a shot (I don't see any of the other usual stuff :<).

Oops, I read the original searchindexer.exe suggestion before the edit and followed it. However, it didn't work. And why the strikethrough now? Was that wrong?

When you say permissions on the folders, are you talking about the folders that I'm downloading to? And what should the permissions be?

Yeah, the strike through part is for "another process" errors, not sure where I confused the two, probably from other troubleshooting... Anyway, Vista fails at permissions. If you right-click a folder, properties, security, you can see what user is allowed to do what. If you don't get access denied saving to OTHER locations, then you need to tweak the permissions.

I'm not sure what should be tweaked, try doing a search on the forum.

And still, what parts of AVG, Avast, and Comodo are you using. Using multiple av/firewall is usually bad :<

Hey, thanks a ton to both of you! It's working. I looked into the folder's permissions to where I was downloading and created a new folder to download to and to tweak the permissions around and see what works. I just pretty much gave full control over everything and it's working now. Awesome, thanks again!

And about having multiple-antivirus thing, yeah, I've heard that's a big no-no but I can't decide which to stick with and which to delete. I like AVG's automatic scanning, but I think avast! has better real-time detection of viruses for when you're surfing the web, etc. Suggestions? More specifically, is one just better than the other?

Comodo is okay to have along with one of those, right? I've been meaning to disable Windows firewall, because I know you're only supposed to have one firewall running, too.

Comodo makes a good firewall, rarely had trouble with it (but not entirely without issues), I don't like avast! or AVG. Both e-mail scanners were corrupting BitTorrent traffic (should be fixed, I reported it), avast had a graphical bug in which part of the right-click menu from the tray icon would stay behind as a ghost of itself. AVG pushes its payware and once installed an incompatible extension into Firefox.

I use Avira, with the permissions on avnotify.exe tweaked (traverse denied for SYSTEM), stops the once an update advertising.

i am gettin the same error message... as soon as the torrent downloads till like 0.5% it gives the error" access is denied".. this is only happening with the torrents i started downloadin today.. the ones i had begun yesterday r working fine.. im usin windows vista and version 1.8.3 of uTorrent.. plz help

It could be windows permissions not allowing uTorrent to read/write somewhere.

Or hostile (probably commercial) software that's locking out files and denying uTorrent to use them...file/media indexers, some of which edit the files -- which counts as "damage" from uTorrent's point of view.
