fry8 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I just got a new laptop and I already have port forwarded the bittorrent "ABC" on my pc, although I still have to change it to a static ip (it was originally and now it got messed up) would I still need to make a static ip on my mac and then port forward utorrent? On some torrents I am already getting around 200-300 kb/s on average and sometimes up to 600 kb/s. I have gotten some torrents to average on about 50 kb/s is this just a bad torrent. Will port forwarding make a difference? And does it matter what color the bottom left of the app is (red, yellow, or green) if I am already getting high download speeds (upload speeds around 200-300 kb/s)? Thanks.
Switeck Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 You cannot upload OR download from others who are firewalled using regular TCP connections (which is nearly everyone) if you too are firewalled. So it can severely impact speeds on torrents with few seeds/peers.
Switeck Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 If you have a router, you must port forward (or use UPnP or NAT-PMP which auto port forwards...if they WORK!) in order to get unfirewalled. You may also have software firewalls causing uTorrent to be firewalled. (I don't know what you have!)
