hotspur
First, I'm sorry for creating a new post on a topic that has already received a lot of attention, but I'm afraid I am also experiencing DHT problems after downloading the latest release of utorrent. As far as I know, this is not a firewall issue, and I have temporarily uninstalled all anti-virus software. Below you'll find a highjackthis log - I would much appreciate any advice you can provide. Thanks very much.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 12:40:32 PM, on 02/08/2009Platform: Windows Vista SP1 (WinNT 6.00.1905)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18813)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exeC:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exeC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eDataSecurity\x86\eDSLoader.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAAnotif.exeC:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eAudio\eAudio.exeC:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Temp\RtkBtMnt.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\LManager.exeC:\Program Files\Acer Arcade Deluxe\Play Movie\PMVService.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxext.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apoint.exeC:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\jusched.exeC:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exeC:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exeC:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\ApMsgFwd.exeC:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apntex.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Windows\system32\conime.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeC:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exeR1 - hotspur
Thanks for the quick turn-around. I came across this page earlier today while reading up on the problem and got great speed from the open office torrent I tried. However, this did not kickstart any of the other open torrents. Also, I just tried to locate the dht.dat and dht.dat.old files on my computer, but they don't appear to be listed anywhere...
DreadWingKnight
start - run - %appdata%\utorrent then
hotspur
Right, I found and deleted both files before restarting utorrent, but the problem persists. Any other ideas? And thanks again for your help!
DreadWingKnight
Unless something's blocking UDP traffic in your configuration, the use of openoffice torrents SHOULD have jump-started the DHT node list.Double-check the windows firewall. hotspur
I double-checked to make sure that the firewall allowed utorrent before posting. I guess I'll try the open office torrents a few more times to see if I can get it bootstrapped. Could this possibly be a port configuration issue? I am trying to connect through a wireless router but was able to do so no problem until just yesterday...
DreadWingKnight
It could be. Any idea what changed yesterday?
hotspur
Well, I did install avast antivirus yesterday, which I naturally assumed at first was the source of the problem. And yet, even after performing a full uninstall of avast, I still can't get so much as a single node in utorrent. I'm currently waiting on the open office torrent (under DHT the tracker is "waiting for announce[ment])," but when I tried it earlier today the download took off (even though nothing else changed on the status bar). Now open office is coming down at a very decent speed. I've also just noticed under the tracker tab for several other torrents that DHT, Local Peer Discovery, and Peer Exchance are "not allowed."
