Kakashi_San
Hi, as you may have gathered I have a problem and I'm hoping it's common and has a simple solution but I haven't found anything online - though that may be because I haven't used the right words.Problem:I downloaded two things from the same source. The first one I began downloading and was getting 100kb/s (which is fine) and then when it was 50% done I began downloading the second one, which was getting basically nothing. But since it was second in the queue I thought I'd just wait until the first one finished downloading. When it did the second only jumped to around 2kb/s. I have tried removing the torrent and then re-downloading, and also exiting utorrent ,waiting a while, and then re-downloading but it doesn't work.I should also note that I had only just downloaded utorrent and these were my first downloads. And my operating system is XP. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
GTHK
What happens on an openoffice torrent? http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
Kakashi_San
Downloads at 40-45kb/s. Not 100kb/s but possibly what I'd be getting right now anyway. Certainly a lot higher than I can get with my other torrent.
Switeck
Hostile ISP such as Carphone Warehouse Broadband Services, BT Central, Rogers, TalkTalk?
Kakashi_San
BT Total Broadband.Could that be the case considering my first download though, which was speedy?
Switeck
Your first download maybe wasn't during peak evening hours?
Kakashi_San
The first didn't take long to download so we were into the second pretty soon after, so they were around the same time. Plus "peak hours" don't usually have a noticable effect. The only thing I've done is started that open office download, and that had no immediate effect. However, I noticed a moment ago a pop up telling me my download was complete, which was a shock. Began another download and it's back to normal download speeds. If that open office download gave some sort of kick or something then a special thanks for that. Either way, thank you both for your help.If it's temporary I'll be back on this thread soon, lol. Thanks again guys!
Switeck
My guess is you're not in peak evening hours anymore...
Kakashi_San
Ok, I'm back. To sum up. First torrent was fine downloading at 100kb/s (around 8/9pm). Second one started and was embarrassingly slow at 2kb/s (10/11/12pm ish). Began dowloading openoffice and was getting around 40kb/s but had no immediate effect on my second torrent. A while later and I notice the download's complete. I begin downloading another torrent, and it's at first getting around 100/150kb/s - later I notice it's getting 300kb/s+, a value I would be very happy with! This morning, possibly 10.30am I begin downloading my forth torrent and we're back to these embarrassing speeds - as high as 10kb/s as low as 0.1kb/s.I don't think it's anything to do with peak hours, and if it's a hostile isp why is it fast/slow/fast/slow?The details it's showing me for the torrent are Seeds: 4 (11)Peers: 4 (14)Also, I tried out anothe torrent (and was getting the same speeds) which showed these detailsSeeds: 17 (1648)Peers: 33 (2414)
Switeck
Your ISP can be throttling/disrupting based on immediate congestion as well. So if it's not really busy, maybe it's a little more relaxed. It almost sounds like uTorrent's settings are messed up pretty badly too...Watch what's happening at the peer/seed level. Are they almost always failing to connect?Do they disconnect quickly (within a minute of connecting)?Does Logger show a lot of weird errors when connecting/disconnecting with peers/seeds?
