yakuva
I was at my wits end with the banner popping up all the time so with a little trial and error found that it was caused by a setting.Options | Preferences | General | Privacy | Check for updates automaticallyIf this option is unchecked the banner will come up and if it is checked it does not. I tried it with 1.8.3 and 1.8.4 and worked for both.Curious if this fixes you guys as well.
Zarggg
I've never had this issue, even with automatic updates turned off. It should only come up the first time you actually run the program.
yakuva
It launches every time for me. I am using utorrent in Ubuntu with wine. It doesn't do it on my windows machine.
GTHK
Changing MAC addresses and/or adapters frequently?
Firon
Wine in some cases returns no MAC address at all, so in that case, uTorrent has no mac to store. You'd have to configure the relevant network adapters to pass along a MAC.
yakuva
Adapters are the same it is a server. I just tested it 3 more times and it has to do with "Check for updates automatically" for some reason. If it is checked I don't get the message and if it is unchecked I do.Crazy I know. Ultima
Indeed. I encountered the same behavior a year or two ago, but the problem went away on its own.
janpetel
You are completely right; this solution does work. There is another very long thread with numerous discussions on this problem. In other programs, this would either have been a check mark in the dialog itself ('Don't show this message again'), like when in Firefox one is closing multiple tabs for the first time after installation (I like this kind of UI) or a separate checkbox option under Preferences. I would like to propose one of these options (rather than the program checking the value of a check box which is intended for another purpose, which is really not done).Cheers.(by the way, I use Fedora and Wine, and microTorrent has always been running smoothly, apart from this issue)
yakuva
Thanks for confirming janpetel.Looks like this is isolated to linux utorrent users.
