Integrated Tracker

I'd like to see a built in tracker in uTorrent. I know you can make torrents with uTorrent, but you have to specify a web based tracker.

Azureus and BitComet can do it. They use their built in trackers along with the DHT network.

Uhm...µTorrent already has a built-in tracker...

● bt.enable_tracker This enables or disables the embedded tracker. The tracker URL is http://your.ip:port/announce (domains do work). It does allow external torrents.

Let me adjust my request. I'd like to see the integrated tracker and controls stand out more.

Considering that the integrated tracker actually has less features than 90+% of other trackers out there, why do you want to use it?

Let's not forget that closing the client closes the tracker.

What DWKnight is trying to say is that if you're a "heavy-duty" torrent creator, you'll be better off with a dedicated tracker program. µTorrent's built-in tracker is only for those of us who occasionally upload a torrent to be seeded for a few days (at most).

It's only designed for quick sharing between friends. Anything more sophisticated should be done with a real tracker.

Also great for LAN torrents. I've had a lot of LAN file transfers get corrupted and I use torrents to error-check that the transfer went through alright. Naturally, my default tracker is one of my computers running µTorrent - it works great.

If you're creating a torrent for public use, though... best to find a dedicated tracker for that job - NO client's built-in tracker would serve that purpose properly.
