Userdoesnotexist Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Now before you answer I will tell you i had NO problem with download speeds and and everything already dialed in perfectly for the settings. Ive been using my utorrent for about 5 months. Everything was perfect and I was "averaging speeds of 600kbps" yes you read that correct. That was my bare minimum downloads. I had reached speeds of over 1300kbps no problem on some torrents. So do not (I know your only trying to help) give me your generic answers ive seen ont he other topics. I know im not the only one that has this problem, as utorrent recently within the last week or two, I would say about 8/13/2009 till now, since my last file i downloaded on the 13th was going as fast as it usually does. I don't know what they did but its freaking slow now. There are TONS of seeders but as with 2 other recent topics that follow my exact problem I BARLEY go above 30kpbs now. W T F? And again I say I my direct download speeds from today (8/28/2009) are fine as they were before so it IS NOT my ISP! Sigh, If all else fails I guess its time to delete utorrent and find another torrentdownloader. =/
DreadWingKnight Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ <-- do torrents from here give you the massively slow speeds?
Switeck Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Have you done online searches about how your ISP has recently turned very hostile to BitTorrent?Does this same low download problem occur with the test torrents (mentioned in 1st link of my signature)? If the test torrents are also slow...I suggest you try Deluge, Azureus/Vuze, or BitTornado to see if the problem occurs with them too.
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 What is that ^^?? Ive never even heard or used open office??
Switeck Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Open source productivity software like Microsoft Office. We use it as test torrents because it is seeded by EXTREMELY fast lines. You DON'T have to run it after it downloads -- it's ONLY to test download speeds.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 It is a torrent we KNOW performs well in all conditions except outright torrent interference from the ISP.
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Yeah I never ever had a problem with utorrent before as its by far the best torrent. I used bit torando and that thing was ridiculously slow. As far as im concerned no, my isp isnt hostile against bittorent nor do I have any limit or bandwidth restrictions.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 That still doesn't answer my question above.
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Yes the torrent performs well as many others have downloaded it as well. Tons of seeders. As for interference from isp i dont know. The link you gave me for open office is downloading from utorrent as I type this and im looking at it currently. It is running at 850kbps and climbing still....so I dont know what the problem isEdit: Downloaded reached and capped off at approx 970kbps. So nearly a full megabyte per second.8:53pm central time: Since I cant double post I''ll just keep editing this. I guess no one knows too??!?
Switeck Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 If you've downloaded the test torrent at so far above 600 KB/sec...I'd say the problem is your other torrents and/or bad settings in uTorrent!
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 I'll try a few more torrents with TONS of seeds for a consistency test, then if its still slow then its defitnely utorrents fault. I have not messed around with the settings since they were dialed in. My guess is still on utorrent lol. Will report back with the results in a few.EDIT: Well I just tried 3 differfent torrents. There were many many seeds but the download failed to hit above 50kbps this time. Just also went to a friends house down the street as he uses a different internet provider then I do and HE ALSO noticed something different about his download speeds. I know im not crazy now as we both did not change any settings and those yielded amazing speeds. Utorrent bug or something thats holding back this speed.... sigh
Oxwil Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 If your friend down the street with different ISP is having similar problem, then maybe it's a local problem with physical connection (wire maybe damaged or something like that).
DreadWingKnight Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 There were many many seeds but the download failed to hit above 50kbps this time. The number of seeds alone does NOT define the speed of a torrent, so your test does NOT address our issues.http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/ <-- try one or more of these as well, if these perform similarly to openoffice torrents, then no it is not a uTorrent core issue, and yes it is either an issue with your settings or your isp.
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 I will try it that, I know its not a settings issue, as ive downloaded hundreds of torrents in 4 months with speeds that made me happy and all of a sudden the settings dont work, nah. It an isp or utorrent client problem or really buggy torrents itself. =/Im avg about 1300kbps with the link you gave me. Here is a picture, once you click on picture, click it again inside link for a larger look.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Considering our control torrents work it narrows things down to the following:1> Your settings2> The torrents you're choosingThe control torrents have a high bandwidth supply with a low bandwidth demand. The problem you may be facing is that the bandwidth supply on the torrents you're testing with is far lower than the demand.
Userdoesnotexist Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 Usually i try to download with seeds and leechers at an even 1:1 ratio, sometimes they are about 1:3 but even then Ive downloaded fine so I think it must be the torrents itself or something hetic, I just cant put my mind around it. Now im sad lol. Thanks for your help thusfar switeck and dread
