System Crashes

Hello Everyone,

My laptop seems to be crashing when running UTorrent or other P2P applications (for example World of Warcraft's Blizzard Updater). I am running Windows Vista x64, and connected via Ethernet to my Scientific Atlanta Webstar modem. My internet service provider is Optimum Online, and I am connected to a Linksys WRT54G router (I have tried to connect directly to the modem as well, and am still seeing these crashes). I read Ultima's guide and did many of the fixes that were proposed including reading the FAQs, Port Forwarding (I followed these, I am connectible, and get a green check mark on the bottom of the screen), and some of the advanced option fixes. After about 15 minutes my system completely locks up, and I have to hold the power button down to get my laptop to shut down. I am running a cooling fan underneath my laptop, so I dont think heat is the issue. Here are my processes, and thanks in advance to everyone who helps:

Update your drivers, Start > Perfmon > look for any indication of a problem in the reliability monitor, see if you have any recent files in C:\Minidump and also run speedfan to monitor temperatures around the time it occurs.

When updating the drivers, check out the laptop brands website (HP, Dell or whatever) for updates, and take special care to look for network drivers (laptop brands site as well as chipset manufacturers site).

Exactly what advanced options have you changed, and settings have you tried? Does anything else happen at the time of your "crash"?

Well, I think I've figured out whats going on, and its a combination of a lot of different things. I found the first problem when I updated the driver for my network card. The hard locks are a thing of the past now. However, there seems to be another problem, and I think I've pinpointed this one. Whenever I start UTorrent now, my modem restarts. I think I'm going to go to the Optimum Store and swap my modem for another one. I will try the other things you suggested. Thanks for the help!
