sandygws
For some reason I am unable to download anything - from any tracker. The Trackers > Status tab gives the error 'hostname not found'. However, if I manually modify the announce url (by doubleclicking a torrent) and replace the hostname with the corresponding IP address, it works just fine!I'm running uTorrent 1.8.4 under Wine 1.1.29 on a Debian 5 x64 OVH box. FTP, etc all work just fine. What could be wrong?
DreadWingKnight
Does the problem persist with http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p or http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/ ?

sandygws
Still the same problem I'm not sure if this is relevant, but when I first installed uTorrent and configured the webui, I received the following error when trying to connect using Firefox:The µTorrent WebUI does not seem to be installed. Click here to try to install it, or see the guide for more details.- So I copied webui.zip to the /users/application data/ folder ... webui works fine.EDIT: I've rolled back to 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 ... still the same problem: 'hostname not found'.Anyone? DreadWingKnight
And to top it off, on wine 1.1.29 on 32-bit linux, I can't reproduce the issue. How did you install wine.
sandygws
The usual way:sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.listadd: deb http://www.lamaresh.net/apt lenny mainwget -O - http://www.lamaresh.net/apt/key.gpg | apt-key add - #to add gpg keysudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install wineEDIT: I even removed -everything- this morning and reinstalled Wine & uTorrent.Still the same problem with 1.8.x, although 1.7.7 works just fine. Weird.I guess it -could- be a Wine 1.1.29 issue. Is anyone else running the latest build of uTorrent under Wine 1.1.29 on a Debian x64 system? DreadWingKnight
fixme:iphlpapi:GetBestInterfaceEx address family 23 not supportedLooks like this may be the cause of your problems. Anything on the wine forums from this?
sandygws
Sadly not. It appears to be something to do with IPV6 according to this thread: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=51741What I can't understand is why IPs are resolving correctly - and enabling me to download - whilst hostnames are not!
DreadWingKnight
Hostnames resolve to IPs, IPs don't need any further resolution.Something on your system is preventing uT from resolving hostnames to IPs.
sandygws
Yes, but what? I bet it's something simple but I'm stumped. The server is clearly able to resolve hostnames correctly ... Firefox works just fine. So does Filezilla, etc. Only uTorrent is having difficulty. Is there any way to acertain just what might be causing this problem?EDIT:Now fixed. Here's the solution: Why doesn't DNS resolve in 64-bit OS's?Many distributions don't provide all the 32-bit compatibility libraries that wine needs. In this case, wine needs 32-bit DNS libraries. On Ubuntu/Debian, this package is lib32nss-mdns. To install it on those OS's, use:sudo apt-get install lib32nss-mdns
