prayforrain86 Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 hi, im running win vista. utorrent version 1.8.3 (the upgrade will not install). im getting the yellow download symbol saying my network settings are incorrect. port checker says port is not forwarded correctly.im using a netgear WNR845T router and i have a port opened on it specifically for utorrent. also im using windows firewall and utorrent is checked as an exception in it. i was not having this problem until a few days ago.upnp is unchecked both in utorrent and netgear router.at first i read about unchecking upnp and that seemed to solve the problem; i got the green symbol. but now im back to yellow and no downloads.please any help is appreciated and let me know if more info is needed.thanks
GTHK Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Yellow is indeterminate, start openoffice to test it. Also try removing the rule from Win Firewall and making a brand new one. Are you using any other firewall software? Need more details! http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
prayforrain86 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 ok tried resetting windows firewall permission for utorrent. didnt help.supposedly my router has a firewall built into the hardware but it hasnt been an issue before now and i have a port forwarded thru it. im running windows malware detection but other than that no firewall or antivirus software should be getting in the way. as far as a i know nothings changed since the last time i downloaded successfully.oh and btw what is openoffice? couldnt find anything on it.thanx for help sorry i cant be any more specific right now
GTHK Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 im running windows malware detection but other than that no firewall or antivirus software should be getting in the wayBut do you HAVE any and what are they?oh and btw what is openoffice? couldnt find anything on it.It's in the thread I posted for you to go through..
prayforrain86 Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 okstarted downloading openoffice to test connection.using the suggestions for "conservative settings" made that at least start downloading.then i figured out that the port needed for utorrent was only forworded thru my router and not set as trigger. changing that gave me the green light and i downloaded openoffice lickity split.unfortunately im still getting slow speeds (26kbs) on my other downloads even tho im connecting to over a half dozen seeds and about 20 peers. shouldnt it be higher than that? what else can i do?btw sorry i wasnt clear on the anitvirus/firewall programs. there are none besides microsoft firewall and malware detection.thanks for help
Switeck Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 What's the speed of your connection and what settings are you using?
prayforrain86 Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 using speed checker i clocked in at 1mbp dl and 750kbps ul although charter claims 10mbps connection ...as far as settings...could u be more specific? i changed advanced tab settings according to "conservative settings" in that link GTHK gave me.using 2mbp connection speedupload limit 186 kbpsconnections per torrent = 100max actvie torrents = 9upload slots = 8connections global = 750 (changing to <100 as suggested didnt seem to make a difference)dht is on...upnp is offdunno what else. lemme know
Switeck Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Why did you choose the 2 megabit/sec upload settings when you only have 0.75 megabit/sec upload?
prayforrain86 Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 didnt know i was choosing upload speed...thought it was for dl."connection type: xx/2mbit"changed it to 768k and...wow dl just jumped to 250kbpsguess that solves my problem. thanks all
Switeck Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Yes, the speed settings in CTRL+G are based on max upload speed only.
