highofftofu
Hi, when I run uTorrent, I can't browse the internet. How can i change this? I'm using wireless internet, and the internet runs well when utorrent is off. Please.
pete99
You need to limit your upload broadband speeds to 70% of your UL Broadband test speeds. You need to use a broadband line speed tester that checks both UL and DL broadband speeds, like this one: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ but there are plenty of others. Take a few sample readings and set your UL speed in uT to the average of those. If you're still having problems it may be because your router is being swamped, in which case you may need to cap UL speeds with a programme like Throttle Pro: http://www.intrarts.com/throttled.html which regulates router through-put in line with your tested broadband UL speed. On long file transfers broadband speeds can vary quite a bit, dependent upon traffic levels your ISP is experiencing. So you may need to stop uTorrent and check broadband speeds, and make any necessary adjustments, periodically. Since I capped my UL speeds to my broadband line test speeds I've found Safari loads pages much quicker and my router is no longer filling up with UDP floods, and my allocated port is staying open more reliably when tested with http://www.canyouseeme.org/ .CheersOh, and I found I got better performance with torrent clients hard-wired with an ethernet cable - better bandwidth and less processing overhead for both my MacBook and router. Less thermal issues with both pieces of kit on long file transfers too.
highofftofu
Hi, i tested my speed and i tried to readjust the UL speeds. But lately, i've been unable to download anything. I think my average UL speed was 1mbps. Even with a ethernet cable attached, the downloads don't progress at all. I know that it's not a seeding problem. Thank you. pete99
If your UL speed is 1 mbps, what does your DL speed measure when you test your broadband line? For a tested UL speed of 1 mb/s what are you setting your kB/s UL limit to?you may find some of these links helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1061http://www.dslreports.com/calculatorhttp://www.dslreports.com/toolsWhat's the bi-directional through-put of your router? - it might be less than the manufacturer's claim.Don't forget, most line-speed testers give results in kilobits. You need to divide these by 8 and multiply by 0.7 to get your UL speed limit in kB/s for uT, as per the set-up guide. If you're happy that all that's okay and none of the suggestions in my first answer were any help, then, I dunno. Perhaps someone else can help you.Cheers
highofftofu
Thank you, apparently Im going to set it to 82.25 kB/s. I don't know what bi-directional through-put is. Thank you for your help. I've been using your links. I'm still trying.
pete99
No worries, I'll help if I can. The other thing to remember is that the tracker dictates the data transfer profile, and on a big file they sometimes load you up a bit and then suck some bandwidth seeding others. I've noticed that they often exceed my 1.5:1 seeding ratio in the process and usually work back to 1.5:1 from there. Sometimes they UL over 2:1 and you seem to get little DL whilst they're doing this. I think the size of the swarm - how many other peers and seeds there are - affects the transfer process. In a big swarm they seem more happy to DL you up front and leave you to seed back. Your UL KB/s rate looks about right for your tested speeds, if its too high it can affect your capacity to DL and make loading pages in your browser slow. The things I recommended in my first post worked for me, but they may not work for everyone.Cheers===============================================================================================Oh, you might want to check you're using an unassigned port from the list as well - forgot about that:http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbersCheers
