angelica Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I've Googled around and found a few people mentioning this: a few minutes after loading uTorrent, Windows 7 freezes completely and will only respond to a hard reset. One person I saw found a response, but it was due to an NVidia firewall, which I don't have. It's a pretty much new copy of Windows (well, obviously, I guess), and I was using the latest released version and now the latest beta and it crashes on both. So, have I missed any solutions to this, or does anyone have any ideas?Hijackiness, for those who like such things:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 10:10:24, on 27/09/2009Platform: Unknown Windows (WinNT 6.01.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16385)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\SysWOW64\rundll32.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Corel\Corel PhotoDownloader\Corel Photo Downloader.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2\CorelIOMonitor.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Contacts\wlcomm.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeC:\Users\Angelica\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeR1 - Leissi Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 awesome, so I'm NOT the only one who's having this problem and it's not about my hardware starting to break \o/Indeed, sometimes µtorrent works just fine, then other times I get a hard crash that needs a hard reset. I'm on a legit copy windows 7 Professional x64 if that's of any help.I'll provide other information by request.
angelica Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 I think somewhere else mentioned it crashing when torrents >2GB are involved. That seems to be the case here, too; if I stop (pause isn't sufficient) the 12GB torrent I have - the rest all being between 10 and 120MB - it doesn't seem to crash. But not being able to download anything large is, y'know, a bit rubbish.I'm fairly sure that anywhere I've seen it mentioned has also been on the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Is anyone able to download large torrents on a 64-bit version without it crashing?
DreadWingKnight Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 What disk cache settings are you using?
angelica Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 Erm... does "no, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, yes, no" make sense?
DreadWingKnight Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Just screenshot and imageshack it.
DreadWingKnight Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Try changing both of the "Disable windows caching" to enabled and see. If that doesn't help, try with them disabled.
angelica Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Okay, changed, thank'ee - may need a bit of time to find out if it's crashing/find out if it's still crashing if I swap it round...Edit: Oops, I wrote a post last nite saying that it had worked for a bit longer than normal but I was going to bed, but didn't realise that it failed to post because of the double-post rule. But no, it wasn't still working when I got up this morning, so back to square one...
djpro Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Hi, I had the same problem, and spent the whole day yesterday to solve it!First of all, the problem started after I installed Windows 7 64-bit, and decided to update all drivers by windows update. Windows also updated my Belkin Wireles Desktop G Card (Ralink chipset) with newer drivers (2.1.0.0, year 2007), afterward the problem started, the same problems as already stated in previous posts. After I uninstalled this version of drivers, and installed the old ones (2.0.3.0, 11.12.2006.), that I was using on XP and Vista, problem disappeard! No more freezing of windows while one of the torrent clients is running, and no more errors in Event Viewer, from Service Control Manager with Event ID 7000 (The DNINDIS4 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.)Hope that I will help to many people with same problem!
angelica Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Thank'ee. I've seen wireless drivers mentioned once or twice, but mine's wired (BeBox, which is a Thomson somethingorother)...
djpro Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 But Angelica, the cause of problem is probably the same, the only difference is that I am using wireless network/card, and this driver was freezing the Win7, and as you said, you are using wired card/network over LAN cable, so you should find and install the older driver for it.The only problem for you could be, which one of older drivers will work...
