tiestoct Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Dear all, I am using symmetrical link using 100Mbps LAN. Actually my d/l and u/l speed max that I ever reach was 5/2MBps. My ISP didn't throttle my speed so the max speed depend on my SOHO LAN traffic.I already follow all guides here but please cmiiw ....Here is my uT capture :In that time, I've some question as follow :1. Why the u/l speed decrease while u/l speed increase ? Before I was d/l the last 2 torrents above, my seeding speed can reach 1.2MBps. After that decrease as in the capture.2. Why u/l speed can't stable as d/l speed ? u/l speed sometime up/down anytime. How is the setting to make it more stable. I already set ON 'seeding tasks have higher priority .....' and set 'max upload rate' to Automatic3. Why 'disk overload' message always appear in last row?4. I am seeding 57 torrent and d/l 5 torrents.(total 62 active torrents). Why I must change the ' max number of active torrents' higher than 90 to make last 2 d/l torrent (total 5 torrents) running ? In fact total active torrents only 62. If I set max to 90 than the last 2 torrent will be 'queuing'. So I set it 95-100 to avoid it.Here is my current uT setting :FYI, I am using notebook 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, Windows XP and uTorrent 1.8.3. That's my seedbox ..lol..Anybody suggestions would be greatly appreciated to make my u/l speed betterRegard, tiesto
Switeck Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 1.A 50 KB/sec download uses up at least 1 KB/sec of upload -- possibly as much as 10 KB/sec of upload. So if you're downloading at 1 MB/sec, 20-200 KB/sec of upload is needed. Also while uploading, download gets used up as well at about the same 50:1 ratio. So if you're uploading at 500 KB/sec, at least 10 KB/sec download gets used up...generally that's less noticable because you probably have more download than upload.2.My upload is far more stable than my download: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8845/utorrentpyramids.png(Note: no downloads shown, was only seeding at the time.) I use a fixed max upload speed based on my line's limits. I have limited max connections to less than 100 and run fewer torrents than you (typically 5-10 with only 3-5 busy at any time).3.Disk overload appears because you're trying to download and upload with potentially 100's of seeds and peers at once. Your hard drive is trying to write and read from potentially 100's of places at the same time. You need to lower global and per-torrent max connections somewhat and drastically reduce upload slots per torrent (at least if you consistently have 50+ torrents uploading at once) to reduce that problem. Upload slots per torrent needs to be set so EACH upload slot can get at least 3 KB/sec. If you have 60 active torrents with about 5 connected peers each, that's 300 total peers you're trying to upload to all at once. 300 peers times 3 KB/sec each = 900 KB/sec minimum upload speed needed.4.uTorrent is checking peer/seed ips and doing tracker updates on ALL the already-started torrents. It may take 10-90 minutes to start+check the new downloads because of that. Hopefully, uTorrent will be redesigned so tracker updates have priority.
tiestoct Posted October 9, 2009 Author Report Posted October 9, 2009 Switeck, Thank for your valuable reply. I am new kid on the block so I need more suggestions to maximize my uT. 1. '1MB/sec d/l need 20-200K for u/l'. But why uT didn't directly add 20-200K to current u/l speed ? As a fact, in my case , the u/l decrease dramatically from 1-1.2MB to 127-150K. Is there any setting that I missed? Advanced setting maybe? Please advise.2. R u prefer to separate seeding and d/l process to get stable speed?3. IMHO, u suggest me to limit my u/l torrent to max 50 regarding my speed limit. Is it ? Anyway, does uT count 'pause' torrent as started torrent ? or should I stop it ?4. Is it worth to change my uT to version 1.8.4 to minimize my problem ? Or should I stay with 1.8.3 ?
Switeck Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 1.Older versions of uTorrent don't try to estimate those overheads. net.calc_overhead = true in advanced settings attempts to do just that.2.No, my example was just when I was only seeding. I'm downloading only about 1/10th the time.3.No, 2nd link in my signature shows what settings I recommend based on UPLOAD speed max. Paused torrents probably (not certain though) count against the limit. Torrents should not be left paused for more than an hour...otherwise stop them.4.uTorrent v1.8.4 should have fewer bugs, so please upgrade.
tiestoct Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Hi Switeck,3. I am using your conservative setting to my uT based on my upload MAX as follow : 50 mbit/sec ║ 5000│ 30║ 150│ 800║ 50│ 30I am using this setting cause I want to seeding max 50 torrent at same time.I'll be back for the result especially to get stable seeding speed ;-)4. Ok, I just upgrade to 1.8.4 and will see the result regarding stable seeding speedAnyway, to avoid disk overload then I try to disable 'enable caching of disk writes' and it works .Is it worth to disable it ?thank, tiesto
DreadWingKnight Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I am using this setting cause I want to seeding max 50 torrent at same time.If you don't actually have 50mbit of upload on your connection, you should NOT be using that.
