Torrents killing my connection

I have a 15 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up connection. Thus, I used the Speed Guide to set uTorrent to xx/1Mbit. My port is open correctly, no problems there.

Typically everything is fine with a torrent or two, but when I have more running my connection starts dying out. I run a ping constantly to monitor my connection, and it begins to get "Request timed out" and the sort (high ms responses). I become unable to access any websites (it seems like I'm failing to resolve DNS).

I assume it's an issue with something along the lines of my connection being throttled? What should I do? Is it the # of connections causing this?
