Joishi Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Ok .. so let me start by saying a few things before I describe what's going on. First off, this is not a problem with uTorrent (which, btw, is a GREAT program). So why am I posting in the uTorrent forums? Well because uTorrent was the first program I used that ended up encountering this problem. Secondly - this is not a problem with the router. Please hear me out. Thirdly - I have been searching on Google for about a week now and have been unable to find any answers to my problem. (I have seen links with other people that have the same issue, and the "helpers" have always said "it's the router" .. and again - it is not the router) Maybe I am not using the right keywords for my problem or what, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution.I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit and have a Belkin Wireless N+ router (the type that has a USB port for external storage). So here is my problem: At unpredictable times, my internet connection will mysteriously drop from "local and internet" to "local only" status and it WILL NOT correct itself unless I reboot my computer. (logging off and logging back in will not solve the problem, which suggests to me that it might be hardware related) Having windows try to reacquire an IQ fails. Having windows restart the network adapter fails. Rebooting the router fails. In fact, while my internet (LAN) connection is on local only, my wife's internet (WLAN) connection is running perfectly fine. Rebooting both the router and the cable modem fails. The ONLY thing that corrects my connection is rebooting the computer.EDIT: I forgot to mention that when this happens, my computer is also unable to access anything local. (It thinks it has local access, but it really doesn't because I am unable to contact the router)The only common situation between all crashes is that I've been transferring large amounts of data quickly. This includes torrent downloads, windows update, and even copying files from my computer to the external hard drive connected to the router. My computer did not behave this way previously. Something changed and caused this problem. I don't know if I got a virus (although AVG Free doesn't detect anything) or if it was some update to Vista that caused it, or what..Please, any help is greatly appreciated as I would like my computer to run CORRECTLY again soon. I have a hijackthis log below. I'm not enough of a CS buff to fully understand all of the information it gives. I also do not know what all of the "File missing" messages are about at the end.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:08:38 PM, on 10/12/2009Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18813)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Pidgin\pidgin.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Users\Joishi\Desktop\HijackThis.exeR1 -
