µTorrent 3.0 "Falcon" (32-bit) alpha 25207

Recommended Posts

Not sure if it is right place to post, but anyway it need to be posted somewhere.

Consider scenario:

1. Add some torrent from magnet link

2. Torrent added to uTorrent with some default location. No file dialog is displayed (despite it is expected for new torrents).

3. Stop torrent before file list is obtained ("Files" tab is empty).

4. Change location via "Advanced -> Set download location"

5. Notice "Save as" line on General tab is correct. Start torrent.

6. Once file list is obtained, location is reset to previous default location.

I think being configured to ask for location, uTorrent should ask for magnet links too.

And if torrent's download location is changed it should not be reset.

Once again, the CPU use of the programm is about 100% it's unusable. It's a very annoying bug.

I've got Athlon XP 2500+, WinXP sp3 pro, enough RAM and more than enough of everything else (hardware).

uTorrent starts for about a minute (before it appears in taskbar), taskman shows its process using all the cpu (99% almost all the time). It's a fourth or fifth build I test and all of them waste cpu resources. The only build that doesn't have this bug is 17085. At least it is fine with me.

Also closing the program doesn't close the process, so I have to terminate it manually via taskman,

It seems to me that my reports are IGNORED, because this issue isn't solved, while new buggy builds keep coming since b.17085 which didn't cause CPU overload.

You're directly causing overloads with such badly high settings. Your per-slot upload rate is 0.09kbyte/sec (normal is 1.0, ideal is 3.0-5.0).

Reset your settings to default then follow:

bt.connect_speed=10

net.calc_overhead=1

Is it still incorrect?

How μt will work, if there were many leechers with slow connection? Will it allow new peers to connect if all 100 peers were connected and speed is still below 90%?

Bandwith management: how long after the release of the channel μt will increase the speed?

There's still an annoying bug in the latest version that's been reported since the first alpha of 2.1 was released. If you try to open a torrent file when uTorrent isn't currently running, it just opens uTorrent, but doesn't try to download the torrent. You have to open the torrent file AGAIN for uTorrent to recognize what you're trying to do. I hope someone can get on this. Thanks.

123459,

Yes, it is still incorrect.

60 KB/sec upload speed max spread between 10 torrents is 6 KB/sec per torrent.

But splitting that again up to 10 upload slots per torrent reduces that to 0.6 KB/sec upload speed per upload slot.

It is best to upload at LEAST 3 KB/sec per upload slot.

ul rate 60

global con max 200

connected peers 50

slots per torrent 3 (You've got the box checked to allow more.)

active torrents 6

active downloads 5

bt.connect_speed=2

net.max_halfopen=8

net.calc_overhead=True or False...test to see which works best for you.

Build 17935 still uses 100% of one CPU core, all the time. Tested on Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1.83 GHz, 4 GB RAM.

A snapshot stack trace for the thread using all that CPU:

Why μT setup guide recommends more lenient settings?

Does encryption consumes additional bandwith? My isp don't throttle torrents, should i enable it?

Connected peers: do it affect my dl speed? My dl - 120Kbyte, 50 con peers will be enough?

peer.lazy_bitfield: is it affects _connection establishing_ speed?

Will disabling increase ul speed? Will it work to leechers, if they enabled this at own side, but i disabled it at my side?

bt.connect_speed: default is 5, how it works and what it affects?

net.max_halfopen=8: why 50 is still bad?

I mean - after start μt connects to trackers, peers, exchanges dht &c. 8 really be enough?

no firewall(i know risks)

tcpip.sys patched, modem working in bridge mode(so i can handle many connections)

μTP on

UPnP, NAT-PMP off(don't need)

DHT, PeX on(using open trackers)

resolve ip off(bandwith waste)

IPv6 off(no isp support)

if you need any additional information - request please.

Think of the person on the other end of the connection.

If you're uploading on average less than 1 KB/sec, the whole system won't work very well if EVERYONE does that.

Indeed, if you only get 120 KiloBYTES/second download max then 50 connections should be enough.

bt.connect_speed: default is 5 ...means attempt up to 5 outgoing peer/seed ip connection attempts per second. Figure the amount that could attempt without other limits in just 5 minutes -- 1500 ips!

...And previously the default was 20 per second!

net.max_halfopen=8 is a limiter on how many in-progress outgoing connection attempts to have at once. Otherwise, you might reach global max connections or per torrent max connections with in-progress attempts to dead ips.

net.max_halfopen - but what about DHT and PeX dead ips? If start, μT begun build local dht cache and can reach(for me, 6 torrents added) up to 60 halfopen connections. It will affect time, needed for connect to the swarm. Or, maybe i shouldn't use dht and pex(or use only for downloading torrents)? I mean - all this consumes additional bandwith and time for μT to begun seeding after start(all halfopened conns closed/established only after 6 minutes μT running), and reduces effective ul traffic
