oliver1154 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Hi! Newbie here.I'm downloading a torrent, and the Seeds column shows 3(388). How do I interpret this? Are there 388 Seeds on total and I am only connected to 3 of those? Why am I not connected to all? Please help.
GTHK Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 More connections don't equal better, and yes you read that correctly.http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
Switeck Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Of those 338, way fewer than half probably exist. Are you connected to any peers?
oliver1154 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 I think so ...Peers columns indicate: 57(4321)
linmac Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I am having the same problems everything up till yesterday was fine now I cant get a decent connection I have read and tried almost everything but I still cant get a connection. Even when I get a green tick if I check that the port is ok it tells me no there is a problem, any ideas
Switeck Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 3 + 57 = 60So, do you have max connections per torrent set to 60 by any chance?
linmac Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 uninstalled nvidia network manager installed the beta version now get a green tick and when I test I get a yellow tick and message, port is not open you can still download all other settings in torrent are at default
cool.macho7 Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 HiMine too. Very less speed about 6KbpsWhat are the sttings or any other method to increase speed?Pls help
linmac Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Hi I have checked all settings as far as I can tell they are all correct I just cannot get a port to open both my pc and my laptop are showing yellow and i have tried numerous times to change ports but to no avail
Switeck Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 How am I to know that your settings are correct?
linmac Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Strangely enough torrents seem to be playing again, at around 5pm this evening laptop indicator went green and I was able to get decent speeds have not tried main pc yetgo figure
linmac Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Ran a speed test and up speed was 1 Mbit/ so settings are as followsUpoad Limit = 90Conns per torrent = 100Max active torrents = 6Upload slots = 6Conns global = 450Max active downloads = 5Both laptop and pc are now showing green, speeds have been pretty decent at times. My provider is Virgin media and I am wondering if they have been to blame at times. Both machines shoed green at roughly 5pm last night.
Switeck Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Normally, those settings would be ok. But I'm not sure if 1 megabit/sec is your sustainable upload bandwidth or just burst speed. And even if not, 100+ connections at once tends to hose marginal networking hardware and software.Have you changed any advanced settings?
linmac Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 No have not touched any advanced settings. Have done a couple of speed tests since and I agree that the 1 Mbit/s was probably just a burst average on other tests were around 700 kbit will adjust accordingly
Switeck Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 2nd link in my signature...notice how my settings guide differs from the one built-into uTorrent (CTRL+G)?
linmac Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 yes spotted the differences and have set utorrent accordingly will post later to tell you how it goes
