Router keeps dropping port forwarding

Recommended Posts

D-link 614+ - every now and again, port forwarding is lost (I've been checking it regularly since noticing it had gone); soft reboot of the router fixes it, but sooner or later it goes again.

Any thoughts (other than getting a more up-to-date router!) - apart from this, the router works just fine.

Port forward checker says UDP open, TCP not

Reboot fixes this, but then the log says

[2009-10-25 14:42:15] UDP port bind failed (10048) Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted.

Ctrl G check says all OK

Update. Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Port forwarding OK on Ctrl G check. Same again five seconds later - gone again. UDP message gone.

Utterly confused.

Well, I re-installed uTorrent, turned off uPnP, as I have no idea what it does or why I need it one, and things seem better - BUT, this morning, I did the ctrlG port forward test and it said the port was not open, did another immediately and it said it was. It's OK now, but what's that about? Suggests to me that the test is flaky.

Thanks anyway

I'm on a 20mbps service, which various speed guides clock at anything form the full 20 down to 5. That may have been capping at work that time; we've had this service from some two years, and I would suggest that whilst the full 20 is available at times, one has to work to get there!

Official upload limit for this package is 768. I occasionally get over a 100, but it is often settled at around 90.

net.max_halfopen is 8

Well, once again this am, the first CtlrG says my port not open, then one immediately following says it is, so I don't really trust the test. uTorrent icon on status bar says all well, and figures show I don't get anywhere near the full bandwidth, so there shouldn't really be overload. Port seems to be more consistently open since the re-install. Will keep you posted
