lwesker Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I use PeerBlock to prevent torrent connections to companies whose interest may conflict with my own. For some reason BitTorrentInc is on its block list, and is blocking contacts with BitTorrentInc at 72.20.34.145:6881The attempts are regular (about 5 minutes apart) and consistent (24/7), even with no upload/download activity going on. So it seems like some kind of Phone Home traffic. Why is uTorrent regularly trying to contact said address? Do I need to unblock the address? What functionality am I losing (or what privacy am I gaining) by leaving it blocked?I would expect regular checks for new updated versions, but that is still working. I can also use the menu item to check for and download updates. Hopefully this address is not for some nefarious spying by uTorrent's new owners.
osm0sis Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 The jigs up everyone. lwesker managed to do what no security watchdog company has and uncovered the devious plot.

Firon Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 router.utorrent.com It's the DHT router. And those IP blocklists are completely fucking worthless.
