Chaosnz
I'm unsure whether my port forwarding is working as I always have the green tick in utorrent, but when I actually test if the port is forwarded properly it tells me it isn't. Why would I have a green tick if it's not open? I'm not sure what to do and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Chaosnz
I had never heard of that and even after reading the wiki page I don't feel any better informed. I've been doing some tests and I actually get better speeds when I don't bother with any port forwarding at all (when I have the red exclamation mark). When I set it up so I have a green tick I'm getting roughly half the speeds I get without it. No clue what is going on, and I'm feeling rather discouraged by the whole thing. Switeck
How did you set up your ports?Manual port forwarding?UPnP?Both?
Chaosnz
Manual port forwarding based on the guide at portforward.com. I've been using utorrent with the same modem for about 5 years and I thought I had the port thing all figured out. Now I'm starting to think that the green tick has been deceiving me and all this time I've thought I was connectable and I wasn't.
schnurlos
Port forward test did fail in past times. If you have some "I" flags when you look on the "Peers" tab, your port is definitly open.
Switeck
An overloaded line can fail port tests even if port forwarding is properly done.

DreadWingKnight
Teredo allows you to accept incoming connections via IPv6, whereas the utorrent port checker only checks via IPv4.
godlygaz
so what does that mean regarding the problem at hand?
GTHK
It makes the icon green! But no IPv4 port ok
jowunger
GTHK what OS (XP/7) do you use and what port do you use? In case of 'windows 7' try portnumber higher then 60000 (eg 60001). Use TCPVIEW to check whether any other program uses that port and if not make a screenshot of TCPVIEW with all ports.btw: My uTorrent shows in logger tab only [2009-11-01 12:05:21] IPv6 is installedIt works fine. It does not have to say anything about IPV4. If you can seed then its ok.

ninovanhooff
Im having the same problem on win 7 x64 with uT 1.8.4.The port is in fact not open. Problem might be that uT opened the port the previous time it started so it will yield an error in the modem when trying to register it with another internal IP. (lan ip is dynamic; was 10.0.0.3 yesterday, is 10.0.0.6 now). When choosing another port # it registers it with the modem and the port is open for real. The difference in dL speed is massive when I restart the torrent. From 10kBps to my max dL speed of 405kBps. (with only 10 connected peers). So I could set it to choose a random port every day, but this would mean a mess in the modem I think, since the ports stay open forever. What do you think? godlygaz
ok what happens with mine is that, i will open the port in my home hub V2 , which dosent work with utorrent weirdly, but other clients it does. so i will do it with upnp and it will work for about 5 secnds then close again, Then i run the automatic port mapper (when you click the green, yellow, red symbol) < it will say [2009-11-06 13:21:06] Checking for forwarded port[2009-11-06 13:21:14] Port Forward test complete.
