rmburke2
I also use WIndows 7 x64 and am encountering a similar problem. When I start the client it works for about 4 minutes, at which point it (and all other programs on my computer) cease functioning. The CPU usage spikes to 100%. While the computer is very slow in this state I can still poke around a little. I opened task manager and found that no particular process is causing the spike, my CPU is simply working overtime for some mysterious reason.A major symptom of this problem with me is my network adapter crashing. I get a yellow triangle on the taskbar with "limited connectivity", but I cannot disconnect from my current network or connect to a different network. I am using a Linksys WUSB100 that works perfectly for everything else web related. When I try to shut down it sticks at the "shutting down" screen and I have to manually shut down.I use Symantec Endpoint Protection but I have it configured the same way I did in Vista, which worked perfectly with uTorrent, so it's not that. I also don't have any malware, so if you want a HJT log for that don't ask. However, if you just want to see if some windows 7 process is interfering then ask away and I'll be happy to oblige.Hope this helps you help me! DreadWingKnight
rmburke, your wireless adapter uses a RALink chpiset, which is known to be the cause.
Firon
Ah, yes, RALink has so far not delivered fixed 64-bit drivers for most of their chipsets. They did for a few of them. Try whining to their e-mail support and they might throw you a bone.
rmburke2
I strongly suspect it is not the adapter. I have used the exact same adapter on two different computers, one xp 32 bit and one vista 64 bit (before i upgraded), and both of them handled uTorrent without a hitch. So unless something changed when I upgraded, which I doubt because all the drivers not already in the OS carried over, it's not the adapter causing the problem.I know you guys probably aren't going to be able to give me a solution, but the issues with windows 7 may warrant a closer look at the application. Even if many of the problems are caused by changes to configuration or drivers outside your realm.Either way I'm going to have to find an alternative bittorrent client. Sorry guys
DreadWingKnight
We have a multi-page thread saying that it is the issue.
Firon
It's a well-known issue with RALink wireless hardware on 64-bit OSes. It IS the adapter.
rmburke2
So out of curiosity I went ahead and downloaded the most recent drivers from RALink for my adapter. They claim that the drivers work for 64 bit Windows 7. Correct me if they are lying. uTorrent again crashed my system after about 3 minutes of decent functionality.Strangely enough, a different bittorrent client I installed, Halite, has no problems. It has not crashed and ran for about 8 hours before I tried uTorrent again and had to reboot. Would the adapter cause problems with any and all bittorrent clients or only with yours? DreadWingKnight
It could cause problems with different clients without causing problems with all of them.
DarkBushi
I've got the same problem. I use Windows 7 x64 Buisness but i tried another torrent client : Azureus. And i's the same problem. After 1 day of download, my PC freeze and is very slow. Impossible to shutdown properly. When this append, i can see that my memory is at 78% used (6Go Ram!!!). Also, the weather gadget as no information from far. But my internet connection is still active because my internet activity on my box is running.I verified my LAN driver but it was already updated (i reinstalled it) but always the same.I've got an idea but not sure : the limitation of TCP connexion. I verified and it's limited to 10 (same XP).Next step : upgrade TCP connexions.
