Issues with downloading big files and latest utorrent

Hello guys,

First off I would like to say that I love utorrent, it's an excellent program and it works very well without hogging my system recourses.

But lately I am having some problems. Since some of the later utorrent versions 1.7 and up (this includes the latest 1.8.5 version) my computer keeps freezing when downloading big files (files that are larger than 4 gigabytes in size) smaller files are downloaded without problems but the big files freeze my system. Freezing basically means that nothing works and can't even move a mouse cursor. I have a very good connection speed and my internet should be able to handle 600 connections a minute and utorrent is limited to 200 connections, so it can't be a problem with too many connections.

I am not using Wifi and the computer is connected by cable. The system has 2 gigs of ram and a core2duo processor.

Software conflicts are also out of the question since utorrent is being run on a clean system with only windows vista and AVG installed.

I have now downgraded to utorrent 1.6 and everything works perfect. The reason I downgraded to version 1.6 is because I can't remember exactly at what 1.7 version the problems started and since I didn't wanted to take any chances I just picked 1.6.

My version is in dutch. But if the option you are talking about is under "downloads" and it means to reserve space before downloading then no it's not enabled.

Preferences - General - When Downloading - Pre-allocate all files.

With that off, turn on diskio.sparse_files in advanced.

And post a complete hijackthis log please.

I have set diskio.sparse_files to true

[edit]BTW it now seems utorrent 1.8.5 is downloading a big file without freezing.

Which would you recommend diskio.sparse_files or enable allocation of files while downloading for best use?
