Hello,

General problem description:

Slowness on phased download of a torrent consisting of multiple files, one by one.

Using uTorrent 1.8.5

the torrent file consists of 11 files, 1.1 GB in size

Scenario:

1] Drag and drop a torrent consisting of a few files. For example: FileA, FileB, FileC.

2] In the download properties, uncheck FileB and FileC

3] FileA begins downloading at my maximum download speed (~300 KBps)

4] FileB finishes downloading

5] Go to the "Files" tab

6] Right click FileB and select "High Priority". The status of the files is: FileA - normal, FileB - High, FileC - Skip

7] FileB will begin downloading but much slower (~30 KBps)

8] This speed will remain (it does not get better after 30 minutes or so)

This is a consistent problem (reproducible) when using the same torrent file (did not check with others).

Just to make sure, that this is an application problem, I perform the following test.

1] As I see that FileB is downloaing at 30 KBps, I right click and remove torrent

2] Drag and drop the torrent again

3] In the download properties, uncheck FileA and FileC

4] FileB begins downloading at my maximum download speed (~300 KBps)

Note - when writing this post, I noticed that in the "phased" download (#1..#8 above) I saw that the following files were added in the "Files" tab:

"padding_file_0_if you see this file, please update to BitComet 0.85 or above"

And this goes _file_0_.. _file_11_

Have you ever seen this problem?

Thanks...

BitComet-created torrents that have padding files behave unpredictably in uTorrent.

Have you tried marking all the padded files as "don't download"?

(Though I doubt even that will help :( )

You may need to manually create the padding files...and fill them full of 0's.

I don't have a good program to do that, but they exist. (ask GOOGLE!)
