µTorrent Stable (1.8.5) crashing

i just upgraded to this version of utorrent and yesterday downloaded a few files without problems.

but today whenever i try to add a torrent, utorrent crashes. it says utorrent crashed and created a dump of the crash.

all the buttons on the ui are working fine also except "add torrent". as soon as i opt for this option utorrent crashes.

is there a issue like this with utorrent? i have been using utorrent for years and this is the the first time anything has gone wrong it.

please advise.

im on windows 7 ultimte.

post the crash dump, as well as the hijackthis log and process explorer process list with the dll list for the utorrent.exe process please.

i just tried 1.8.4 to check if the problem would go away but it is crashing like the latest build of utorrent.

i will try to find out how hijackthis works and post the info requested.

i cant make process explorer work. it shows up in the process list for a few seconds and then dissapears.

im trying 1.8.1 now and it seems to work without crashing. i did searches on the net and seems like others are having similar issues also. will post if it stays functional.

According to the crash dump, it appears to be caused by SonicStage and a DLL they have that hooks into other processes. Indeed, it's one of SS's DLLs that is actually crashing (µTorrent is just taken down because of it), C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\OpcWMA.dll.

Could you try uninstalling SS and see what happens? You can also try upgrading to 2.0.

I had the same problem and it was solved after uninstalling Sonicstage. Thank you so much "Firon" for your advice. and thank you "ikurtz" for mentioning the problem. Actually OpcWMA.dll was causing problems in other softwares too( Like Firefox and Winrar, Both of them had stopped working). I'll try to downgrade Sonicstage and see if the problem would be resolved. Thanks again.

There are many other better softwares to listen and manage your music than this Sony crapware: Songbird, Foobar2000 etc...
