chengxinbo
I just switched from Azureus to uTorrent since they've force upgraded it to Vuze. I love uTorrent except for the fact that the cache seems to be useless? I have see the cache to 256 MB, and only checked 2 boxes: enable caching for writing and reading. I got those settings from another post. The thing is, I don't think it's working. The writing cache never fills up, and its usually around 15 MB tops. When I download stuff, I can literally hear the hard drive grinding quite frequently. Obviously, this isn't good. So I was wondering if there's something I can do to fix it or is this what uTorrent is supposed to be and I gotta switch back to Vuze to save my HDD? Thanks a bunch
DreadWingKnight
Did you disable the windows disk cache as well as enable uTorrent's one?And the way uTorrent works, a full disk cache is the sign of a hard drive that isn't able to keep up, not of a broken uT cache. Switeck
Only the read cache is ever likely to fill up uTorrent's cache size if you've got the cache set larger than 32 MB.
chengxinbo
These are my cache settings:I know it is unlikely that it'll fill up all 256 MBs, but why is it usually around 10 or less? Is it because uTorrent writes a piece after it finishes? If it does, how large is a piece?
DreadWingKnight
If it does, how large is a piece?Piece sizes vary by torrent. And the windows disk cache on vista and 7 can't handle uTorrent's traffic.
