mofoduh Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Hello,I have a problem with utorrent (not sure if im posting this in the right category) and it is that when i start utorrent i get tons of connections from many different IP's (and utorrent downloads and uploads at like 1kb/s), this lasts for about a minute+ even if i have no added torrents. So why is this happenings and can i stop it? I even get connections from IP's that peerblock blocks (peerblock is the program im using to see all the connections).
Switeck Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Peers/seeds on torrents you were running or previously running continue to retry your ip even if/when you're gone. They may quickly reconnect to you when you restart uTorrent.
mofoduh Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks for the quick reply! But how can i stop them? Even if i restart my router and change my IP i get tons of connections?
moogly Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 You don't need to stop them, that's how bittorrent works. Just don't use PeerBlock with huge useless blocklists.
mofoduh Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 So these connections wont hurt me whatsoever? Even if its Time Warner, SAVVIS etc?I dont want these companies to see what im doing
moogly Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 PeerBlock doesn't protect you against tracking by these companies, it's a pretty low security level. And that's not linked to the fact you receive incoming connections when you start uTorrent.
mofoduh Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 Okay thanks a lot Do you have any recommendations of what i can do to get better privacy while using bittorrent?
moogly Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 There is no ultimate solution, because the protocol of BitTorrent implies your IP is visible on the network. Just avoid exposed torrents, use a seebox/VPN service with a foreign IP etcOr use another file sharing system, like direct download.
