Viper831 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 First my setup:Win XP SP3UTorrent 1.8.4Internet: 32Mb up/ 16Mb downI can constantly seed at over 750kB/s if I have 20+ leechers.I keep it limited to 600kB/s.But if I have only 3-4 leechers they only get about 50-75kB/s each. How can I set it so that more bandwith is given when there is a low number of leechs?
Switeck Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 "Internet: 32Mb up/ 16Mb down"If you're doing that from a ComCast cable line...you don't have anywhere near that much upload. "I can constantly seed at over 750kB/s if I have 20+ leechers."My guess is if you have the 50 mbit/sec down and 10 mbit/sec up ComCast speed tier, you should manage just over 1000 KB/sec upload. The slower ~22mbit/sec down and 5mbit/sec up speed tier might hit 750 KB/sec upload but only for <1 minute bursts. If the other end is overloaded, they won't download at their normal max speed from you. Not much you can do about that.
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 If I have many people leeching I can stay at a constant 700kB upload for hours. This is not a burst speed. If there are only a few people leeching they only get about 50-75kB each. I know it is not their download speed as I have talked to them. Also that speed test from which I got those speeds was while I was upload/downloading torrents. Also just noticed that I posted the up and down speeds backwards.
Switeck Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 If someone is downloading slowly from you, are they using uTorrent v1.8.5 or later?Your speed test reflects HUGE speed bursts from ComCast, not the sustainable speeds. You're probably on the 50 mbit/sec down and 10 mbit/sec up, but for whatever reason are getting far less than that down in speed tests...and more than that up due to speed bursts.Try TCP Optimizer? (use with care -- default settings allows FAR too many server connections at once!)TCP Optimizer can hopefully allow you to upload faster to individual peers.
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 I already used TCP Optimizer and the results didn't change. I am trying to figure out why I can sustain a solid 600kB upload , but only with 20 or more leechers. I don't care about making my upload faster, just to sustain the same speed with 4-5 leechers. What is an optimal setting for server connections?
Switeck Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Well, I certainly don't mean increasing total upload speed in uTorrent -- only to "push" more than 80 KB/sec to an individual peer."What is an optimal setting for server connections?"You mean uTorrent acting as a seed box? (only seeding a bunch of torrents)
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Yes I am only uploading no downloads.I have a PC dedicated to utorrent.
Switeck Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Upload speed limit: 750-800 KB/sec (Your call on this amount, I don't know if it's stable for you above 750 KB/sec...nor do I know if it'll make your line laggy getting so close to max.)upload slots per torrent: 10 (If you only have 1-3 torrents active, you can raise that as high as 20. If you do, also raise connections per torrent similarly.)connections per torrent: 15 (Yes, quite low -- but that means only 5 are waiting to get something from you while the other 10 are getting from you right now. Less wasted that way.)global connection max: 300max active torrents: 20 (I am guessing not all will be active and/or have 10+ peers each.)max downloading torrents: 2 (In case the box is used for something besides seeding.)
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 I will test these settings, although I leave my max upload at 600kB.With these settings, with only 1 leecher I am getting about 120-130kB upload.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Which may be the limit of their connection. If that's the case, you can't do anything about that.
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Thanks for all the help. I finally got it. Uploading @ 320kB/s to a single leecher.
Switeck Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Ok, reduced settings for...Upload speed limit: 600 KB/secupload slots per torrent: 8connections per torrent: 15global connection max: 240max active torrents: 16max downloading torrents: 2
Viper831 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 ok I will test those and see it it helps.
