slash213 Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 I encountered this problem on Windows XP + uTorrent 1.7.something (it just appeared out of nowhere): when I add torrent to download queue, it adds ok, show me "Dowloading" stat, peers and everything, but does not, in fact, download anything. After I exit uTorrent and launch it again all becomes normal. Scheduler is disabled (and everything else is default as well, I use out-of-the-box config).I didn't even care about upgrading client because I'm lazy, but now I assembled fresh new system from scratch, Windows 7 and uTorrent 1.8.5 - and guess what, I caught exactly the same problem. It really starts to seriously bug me so I'd appreciate any help on the topic.
Switeck Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 So, you changed no settings in uTorrent v1.8.5 from whatever they were when it installed? To confirm, list your settings shown by Speed Guide CTRL+G or post a screenshot of that here. Also list any changed advanced settings (changed have a * next to them).
nagerz Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Switeck, I'm having exactly the same problem. Seeds won't connect even after I've added the torrent until I exit and launch Utorrent again! Very bizzare, This only started happening after I forwarded a port!Upload limit 35kps, connections (per torrent) 50, max active torrents 8, upload slots 4, connections (global) 4, max active downloads 5, using port 62232. Set up static i.p using a zyxel 1 port wifi router (via 8MB ADSL cable connection)please see my previous post as since port forwarding got a green logo, however this has since changed to a yellow and red sign intermitently. Your office application that you advise to test the download speed with also won't connect to any seeders!just popped up with a green logo again now and when I check if port forwarded (Ctrl + G) it brings up the web page with the red icon saying error?!?!Help please
Switeck Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 nagerz, did you change any advanced settings in uTorrent (under preferences, advanced)?"connections (global) 4"Surely this is a mistake/typo!2nd link in my signature, 35 KB/sec max upload speed corresponds to 384 kilobit/sec upload settings.
slash213 Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 No, I am 100% sure I don't even touch uTorrent's settings except limiting bandwidth from time to time. But with nagerz's message I was able to remember that my problem started when I switched to using my neighbour's ADSL connection through wi-fi. uTorrent began to show that port is forwarded properly (green icon at status bar), although I never forwarded anything. If checked with "Test if port is forwarded properly" with your website it shows "Port ##### does not appear to be open."Dunno if uPnP is enabled on this ADSL-capable router, can't check right now, but will in couple of hours. This is clearly a bug to me anyway.
nagerz Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 sorry Switeck, connection (global) 100, my mistake. No I haven't channged any advanced settings.Just checked my upload speed, averages at 492kps. Have tweaked the upload limit to 42kps and followed everything on your conservative settings chart.
Switeck Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Check uTorrent's global max connections again. It needs to be higher than your per torrent connection max.slash213,Are things better now?
polarbjørn Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I have exactly the same problem, it began a week ago. But today when i removed some old torrents that where seeding it started like it should. I have about 35 torrents seeding could this be the problem??
slash213 Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 Switeck, thanks for trying to help. Global max connections is set to 200 (default), connected peers per torrent is set to 50 (default as well). 'Peers' column in the main windows outputs data as $c($a), where $c=connected_peers, $a=available_peers (available, but not connected), am I right? If I am then I have only 1-3 peers connected per torrent and maybe maximum 10-20 connected peers in total.polarbjørn, btw, your problem seems to be rooting right in the number of connection settings.
Switeck Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Actually, it's more like connected peers (reported, may not even exist).A peer/seed could have a IPv6 address, a Teredo/IPv6 address, a regular IPv4 address, and even in remote cases somehow get their LAN IPv4 address reported also.A firewalled peer/seed can be reported, but obviously you cannot connect to it...and must wait for it to connect to you.A seed may stop the torrent...or a peer crash offline...but still be reported for awhile.polarbjørn, as you've noticed...uTorrent won't run too well with too many torrents started at once.
nagerz Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Hi, max global connections is 100, connections max per torrent 40. Is that right?I have 17 torrents in my menu and I am seeding 4 and downloading 1 at the moment.Just wondered, in portforward.com it says DO NOT check UPnP port mapping. Yet on your set up site it says to check this box :s What is best to do and could this be affecting things?Could the port I set up just be dodgy? Looked at my Zyxel 1 port wifi menu, could it be an internal firewal in the router? As on the main menu it said firewall enabled.... There seems to be no info on this router on port forward.com or your website.Last night download was slow, yet green tick was up. Now downloading your open office app. 120kps (8MB connection) first yellow, now red sign is up!!!!!Just checked again.... Had to torrents waiting to download, left it 30mins seeders available, none connected.Exited and opened UT again after 5mins and seeds connected straight away, although slow download.Any ideas?
thegroover Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 I have exactly the same error for the last few days (upgraded to 1.8.5). Currently I share around 70 torrents, not sure if this makes any difference though, with 1.7.x I shared more without a problem... I also did not touch advanced settings
DreadWingKnight Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Multiply your per-torrent connections by your active torrent limitIf it's greater than your global connection limit, that's your problem and you should probably be trying to run fewer torrents at once.
slash213 Posted December 14, 2009 Author Report Posted December 14, 2009 Goddamn, It's probably number of allowed SYN connections! Will check later and report.
