Uploading from an external disc

Ok, so I have no idea why this isn't working and maybe its feature related but it has worked for me for other applications.

I had my download location and torrent file location stored on my MBP hard drive. It was taking up too much room, so I moved both folders to my LACIE external.

I went into the preferences and changed the locations for both in utorrent to the folders (that are named the same) on my external HD.

But now, I get red x's for every torrent, and it will not find them on there, or let me re-add them.

Can I keep everything on my external and still up/down things? Or does it have to be on my main harddrive?
