spritemv Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Hi! I recently ran into a problem with my WebUI. A few weeks ago I had it working great, and frequently used it to initiate and monitor downloads on my HTPC while using my desktop or iphone. However, after upgrading my router from a Linksys WRT54G to a WRT320N, I can no longer connect to the HTPC's WebUI with either one.I have not changed the uTorrent install, the WebUI, or the iphone interface on the HTPC. I've made sure the uTorrent port is forwarded on my new router. uTorrent should have already allowed the port to pass through Window's firewall since it was working fine before the router upgrade. When it was working before, I was using the link, <http://external.ip:port/gui/> and it worked fine. After having trouble, I discovered the link <http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=64850> which talks about similar problems and I decided to try <http://LAN.ip:port/gui/>. Still no luck. The following link DOES work, but must be accessed from my HTPC (and is therefore not very useful): <http://localhost:port/gui/>. I am still able to connect to my friend's WebUI from across the state and I have no problem pinging my HTPC over the LAN.It seems to me that my new router is blocking the connection despite having the uTorrent port open. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Ultima Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=58156Try v0.362.
spritemv Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 I installed v0.362 and I am still unable to access the WebUI when pointing to either the external ip or the LAN ip. The "localhost" link still works. Any other ideas? Is there some other setting in my new router I need to adjust other than just port forwarding?
Ultima Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Just to be sure, the port checker does say that the port is open, right? When you forwarded your port, did you also set up a static IP for your computer outside the router's DHCP range? Linksys routers tend not to forward ports for IPs within the DHCP range.
spritemv Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 The port checker says the port is open and accepting connections. uTorrent is also giving the green check mark to signify that the port is open. I'm not exactly sure what you mean "outside the router's DHCP range." I'm using DHCP reservation to assign my HTPC a static IP, 192.168.1.105. I guessing this means I am not outside the DHCP range? Should I be using a different technique to give my computer a static IP?

spritemv Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 Thanks for the link. What's the benefit of assigning a static IP under windows vs. using DHCP reservations with the router?
GTHK Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Doesn't rely on the router, less explody.
spritemv Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 I reassigned my static IP using Windows instead of the router and I chose an IP outside the DHCP range. However, I still can't connect to the WebUI despite the port checker saying my port is open. I had my friend try to connect to my WebUI from his house and he also can't connect. I can connect to his without a problem.Any ideas what to try next?
Ultima Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 What error do you see in the browser when the connection attempt fails?
spritemv Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 It just times out like I'm trying to connect to a web page that's down:"The connection has timed outThe server at ###.##.###.135 is taking too long to respond. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
Ultima Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Outside of a firewall or security software being stupid and blocking HTTP access, I don't really have any idea what could be the cause...
spritemv Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Posted January 17, 2010 Hm, uTorrent automatically makes an exception in Windows Firewall so I wouldn't think that would be the problem. The HTPC is running AVG which doesn't have a built-in firewall. I switched the anti-virus on my desktop to Microsoft Security Essentials, but if that was the culprit, my iPhone would still be able to access the WebUI. Oh well, I'm planning a reformat in the next month or two anyway so hopefully that will fix things. I'll tinker around with it a bit more and let you all know if I get it working... Thanks so much for all the help you have provided!
