Buck268 Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 I've done a lot of searching and came into all the typically AV and firewall problems (disable P2P in avast, set utorrent affinity to one processor core) and believe I have ensured those are not the issue. Basically, utorrent will work great until my screen saver kicks in (which is set to require a password to get back in), when I go to log back in, utorrent will be unresponsive and does not resolve with time.I'm running Vista64 SP2 with a Athlon X2 CPU and ATI3200 graphics chipsetAvast 4.8 Home EditionZoneAlarm version:9.1.007.002 (free)Windows defender is also set to run scheduled updates and quick scans.HJT log of after it stops responding:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:30:12 AM, on 1/17/2010Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18865)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager\LManager.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go\CLMLSvc.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\NewTech Infosystems\Gateway MyBackup\BackupManagerTray.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exeE:\utorrent.exeC:\Users\Josh\Desktop\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://homepage.gateway.com/rdr.aspx?b=ACGW&l=0409&s=2&o=vp64&d=0809&m=nv52_seriesR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://homepage.gateway.com/rdr.aspx?b=ACGW&l=0409&s=2&o=vp64&d=0809&m=nv52_seriesR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://homepage.gateway.com/rdr.aspx?b=ACGW&l=0409&s=2&o=vp64&d=0809&m=nv52_seriesR0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\Windows\SysWOW64\blank.htmR0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exeO1 - Hosts: ::1 localhostO2 - BHO: AcroIEHelperStub - {18DF081C-E8AD-4283-A596-FA578C2EBDC3} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelperShim.dllO2 - BHO: (no name) - {1FD79A59-37B1-459B-9097-09F9FAB8A523} - (no file)O2 - BHO: Spybot-S&D IE Protection - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~2\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dllO2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dllO2 - BHO: Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dllO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [startCCC] "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\CLIStart.exe" MSRunO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LManager] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager\LManager.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CLMLServer] "c:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Power2Go\CLMLSvc.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [backupManagerTray] "C:\Program Files (x86)\NewTech Infosystems\Gateway MyBackup\BackupManagerTray.exe" -kO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZoneAlarm Client] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast!] C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exeO8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office12\EXCEL.EXE/3000O8 - Extra context menu item: Google Sidewiki... - res://C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Toolbar\Component\GoogleToolbarDynamic_mui_en_60D6097707281E79.dll/cmsidewiki.htmlO9 - Extra button: Blog This - {219C3416-8CB2-491a-A3C7-D9FCDDC9D600} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Writer\WriterBrowserExtension.dllO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: &Blog This in Windows Live Writer - {219C3416-8CB2-491a-A3C7-D9FCDDC9D600} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Writer\WriterBrowserExtension.dllO9 - Extra button: Send to OneNote - {2670000A-7350-4f3c-8081-5663EE0C6C49} - C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office12\ONBttnIE.dllO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: S&end to OneNote - {2670000A-7350-4f3c-8081-5663EE0C6C49} - C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office12\ONBttnIE.dllO9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~3\Office12\REFIEBAR.DLLO9 - Extra button: (no name) - {DFB852A3-47F8-48C4-A200-58CAB36FD2A2} - C:\PROGRA~2\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dllO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Spybot - Search & Destroy Configuration - {DFB852A3-47F8-48C4-A200-58CAB36FD2A2} - C:\PROGRA~2\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dllO13 - Gopher Prefix: O23 - Service: @%SystemRoot%\system32\Alg.exe,-112 (ALG) - Unknown owner - C:\Windows\System32\alg.exe (file missing)O23 - Service: avast! Buck268 Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 I ran utorrent for a year or so in XPSP2 with AVG & ZA, then avast and ZA without any issues. Is there a specific issue with ZA and Vista? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DreadWingKnight Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 There's a shopping list of problems with ZA in general.Including this overzealous locking that it does. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Buck268 Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 Thats too bad, never had a problem until now... Suppose its time to hunt for a new firewall option, eh? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DreadWingKnight Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 If you have a router, software firewalls are basically useless.By the time they get past the router, any hostile software will take out a firewall without a second thought. moogly Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 And ZA under Windows 7 (if you migrate a day) is really buggy and outdated (crash to installation). So try another firewall like Comodo, Outpost, Online Armor, etc... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Buck268 Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2010 Just an update: For the record, uninstall of Zone Alarm seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
